The Conjuring: Last Rites Box Office Hits Record-Breaking Global Milestone In Just 3 Days

The Conjuring: Last Rites has taken just three days to hit a record-smashing global box office milestone. The new movie, which stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren, is the fourth in the flagship franchise but the ninth in the overall Conjuring Universe, which includes the spinoff franchises The Nun and Annabelle.

The Conjuring: Last Rites release kicked off with a bang on September 5. It is projected to earn a 3-day debut of $83 million in domestic theaters, which is not only the third best opening weekend for a horror movie ever, but the best of the entire Conjuring Universe and the best for a 2025 horror movie to date.

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, The Conjuring: Last Rites is expected to debut with a 3-day opening weekend of $187 million worldwide. Overseas markets have added a whopping $107 million to its domestic total, making this the highest-grossing international horror debut in history. The previous record-holder was It: Chapter Two ($92 million).

Additionally, this total means that The Conjuring: Last Rites has become only the 16th movie of 2025 to pᴀss the $180 million global milestone, after just three days.

What This Means For The Conjuring: Last Rites

Thanks to this record-smashing global debut, Last Rites is already about to climb the chart of the highest-grossing Conjuring movies worldwide. It only needs to earn an additional $19.4 million in order to become the eighth highest-grossing movie in the franchise by surpᴀssing the worldwide gross of 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

This should be easy for it to achieve, though it remains to be seen how well it performs during its sophomore weekend. Horror тιтles can be extremely frontloaded, and The Conjuring: Last Rites reviews have been middling, earning it a score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes that is tied for the lowest of the four flagship Conjuring movies.

However, even if it drops 60%, which is not uncommon for horror тιтles, this would allow it to earn $33.2 million at the domestic box office alone during its sophomore weekend. Not only would it surge past The Devil Made Me Do It, that total would place it just $11 million away from outgrossing 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home as well.

Only time will tell if The Conjuring: Last Rites can use its current momentum to eventually become the franchise’s highest-grossing movie. However, the fact that it is already performing so well compared to previous installments is impressive in and of itself, considering the fact that the Conjuring Universe is the 35th highest-grossing movie franchise of all time.
