A popular comedy series is being made into a movie five years after going off the air. Over the years, there have been a number of series that have either been remade into movies (such as the action тιтles Charlie’s Angels and Mission: Impossible) or received sequels featuring the original cast (such as Andrew Haigh’s 2016 drama Looking: The Movie).
There are also a number of comedy movies that are sequels to shows and feature the original cast. This includes 2008’s Sєx and the City: The Movie (which was followed by a film sequel as well as the sequel series And Just Like That) and the upcoming Community movie.
However, comedy series getting movie sequels after their finales is still relatively uncommon, which makes the latest announcement of a new movie follow-up even more special.
The Call My Agent! Movie Is Happening
Now, the Call My Agent! movie is in the works. The comedy series, which is called Dix pour cent (Ten Percent) in the original French, followed the personal and professional lives of four agents at a Paris talent agency. The series, which was created by Fanny Herrero, ran on France 2 for four seasons between 2015 and 2020.
Call My Agent! stars Camille Cottin, Thibault de Montalembert, Grégory Montel, Liliane Rovère, Fanny Sidney, Stéfi Celma, Nicolas Maury, and Laure Calamy.
Call My Agent! featured cameos from a variety of international stars, including Possession‘s Isabelle Adjani, Oscar winner Juliette Binoche, Oscar nominee Isabelle Huppert, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘s Monica Bellucci, and Alien franchise star Sigourney Weaver. The show was a critical darling, earning an average score of 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes alongside an audience score of 98%.
Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Fanny Herrero confirmed that she has written the screenplay for a Call My Agent! movie while receiving the ᴅᴇᴀᴅline French TV Disruptor Award. She told the publication that “yes, [the movie’s] on its way.“
The core cast of the series will be returning for the movie, though it has not yet been officially confirmed exactly which stars will be reprising their roles. Read Herrero’s full comment on the project below:
I can just say the writing is done. So now, yes, it’s on its way. I’m so happy to write for them again. [The cast] are so inspiring, I love them all. And the fact that I left and it’s been almost five years now since the last season was released, [makes] it so good to be back again together.
What This Means For Call My Agent!
The Call My Agent! movie is something of a victory lap for the series. Since the show went off the air, it has spawned a mᴀssive global franchise, with international remakes including Turkey’s 2020 series Menajerimi Ara, a 2022 British series тιтled Ten Percent, and others from India, South Korea, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, and more.
The cameo-driven behind-the-scenes approach of the comedy series may also have inspired the Apple TV+ series The Studio, which was recently nominated for 23 Primetime Emmy Awards. By arriving in a world that is primed to appreciate the original series even more, the Call My Agent! movie could become a significant success.
