Sequel To $21M Sleeper Hit Survival Thriller Adds First 3 Stars, Plot & Filming Details Revealed

Fall 2‘s cast has been announced. It’s a sequel to the 2022 survival thriller Fall, which followed Becky (Grace Caroline Currey) reluctantly agreeing to climb a treacherous TV tower with her friend Hunter (Virginia Gardner) after the rock-climbing-related death of her husband Dan (Mason Gooding), only for the two of them to get stuck at the top.

The upcoming Fall 2 was announced in March 2023, after the 2022 movie grossed $21.8 million against a reported budget of just $3 million and went on to become a Netflix success. Directors Michael and Peter Spierig (Winchester, Jigsaw) boarded the project, working from a screenplay by original Fall co-writers Scott Mann (who also directed the 2022 movie) and Jonathan Frank.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Fall 2 (which is set to premiere in 2026) has already wrapped production in Thailand. Additionally, it has been announced that the movie will star Harriet Slater, Arsema Thomas, and Tom Brittney in its three leading roles. Read the official synopsis of the upcoming movie below:

Overwhelmed by her sister Hunter’s death, Jax (Slater) connects with Luce (Thomas), Hunter’s fearless friend. To heal, they attempt the infamous plank walk of Mount Kwan in Thailand. After a sudden rockslide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank 3000 feet in the air, Jax must confront her deepest fears and fight for survival to find closure.

Below, read a statement from Michael and Peter Spierig as well one from returning producer James Harris:

The Spierig Brothers: We were huge fans of the first film and couldn’t wait to continue the journey. Our aim was to capture the same intensity that Scott Mann and his team established in the original, while adding new, layered characters who will connect with audiences as they endure extreme and terrifying heights.

James Harris: We are delighted to be working with the extremely talented Spierig Brothers and this incredibly dynamic cast to introduce the next chapter in the Fall franchise. With Michael and Peter’s vision we hope to bring a bigger and even more vertigo-inducing experience to audiences.

What This Means For Fall 2

Like many sequels that boast new lead characters, it seems like Fall 2 will essentially be a remake of the original movie, considering the fact that it also follows two characters who are dealing with grief getting trapped in a high-alтιтude situation.

However, the characters’ connection to Hunter means that the story will take place after the ending of Fall and thus could be informed by the events of the original movie in an interesting way. Additionally, the fact that the characters will be trapped on a plank rather than a relatively spacious TV tower makes their situation even more perilous.

Our Take On The Fall 2 Cast

The trio of cast members who have been ᴀssembled to star in Fall 2 all have major television projects under their belts, though the survival thriller will see all of them stepping out of their comfort zones by playing characters in the modern era.

All three stars are best known for period pieces, with Harriet Slater playing Jamie Fraser’s mother in 18th century Scotland in Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood, Arsema Thomas playing young Agatha, Lady Danbury in 1761 England the Bridgerton prequel Queen Charlotte, and Tom Brittney playing vicar Will Davenport in 1950s Cambridgeshire in Grantchester.

Grantchester eventually extended into the 1960s in its later seasons.

The fact that the three stars will be taking on new challenges with these roles could help increase the intensity of Fall 2 if they channel that energy into their characters. This could potentially help the sequel live up to the high-octane thrills of the original movie.
