Avengers: Doomsday could stand to learn some big lessons from the MCU’s next release, where “All the Avengers are ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.” The loss and lack of any iteration of the Avengers has been a big topic in the MCU for a while, with their absence recently being addressed in Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.
Admittedly, Thunderbolts* did wind up debuting the New Avengers, with the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene delivering a first look at the team as they discuss their legal troubles with Sam Wilson’s Avengers. Part of the reason for their existence, however, was a desire to reform the Avengers following the new Captain America’s reluctance to do so himself.
Thankfully, the New Avengers are a refreshing crowd. Their minimal power levels when compared to their predecessors are counterbalanced by their charisma, with the likes of Yelena Belova and Red Guardian providing plenty of entertainment value. Furthermore, it seems they are central to the MCU’s next installment.
Marvel’s Next MCU Release Is A Fascinating Story About Other Marvel Heroes Stepping Up After The Original Avengers Are Destroyed
Marvel Zombies is the MCU’s next animated series, which is due to start streaming on Disney+ on September 24. A recently released trailer for Marvel Zombies revealed a closer look at the TV-MA-rated show, which stars a who’s-who of zombified MCU heroes and villains going up against a team of surviving heroes, including Yelena Belova and Red Guardian.
Other members of the team include Spider-Man, Shang-Chi, the head of Ant-Man, and Black Panther. It looks to be building upon one of the most popular What If…? episodes but won’t be holding back with its depiction of violence, with one of the trailer’s most striking sH๏τs showing Spider-Man pulling the heads off of multiple zombies.
Spider-Man and Doctor Strange notwithstanding, it also appears to be spotlighting some lesser-known heroes like the newly minted New Avengers, pitting them against zombie Avengers like Steve Rogers’ Captain America. This is a new direction for the MCU, and establishes a precedent that Avengers: Doomsday could stand to replicate.
Avengers: Doomsday Has A Lot It Can Learn From The MCU’s Marvel Zombies Already
Just from the trailer footage, Marvel Zombies has pointed to something that future MCU installments like Avengers: Doomsday could certainly benefit from. Namely, spotlighting such characters as the impossibly charismatic Yelena Belova in lieu of more well-established characters like Captain America.
Avengers: Doomsday is additionally the perfect place to replicate one of the main story beats of Marvel Zombies. Given the success of Avengers: Infinity War, it is possible that Avengers: Doomsday will emulate its most shocking moment by killing off some high-profile characters like the Avengers.
Even if Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t resort to something so drastic, destroying or disbanding the traditional Avengers in order to spotlight other Marvel heroes would make for a unique an compelling plot. Hopefully, these spotlighted heroes will be the same as those in Marvel Zombies, given their mᴀss appeal and proven talents.
