Avengers: Doomsday art shows Doctor Doom going after Steve Rogers after the events of the team’s last movie. Chris Evans officially retired from the role of Captain America in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. While he has since returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he did so as a version of Johnny Storm, the first Marvel hero Evans played before the MCU.
As one of the main stars of the MCU’s Avengers movies, not having Evans in Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast would be quite a blow to the franchise. Marvel is seemingly aware of that, with multiple reports claiming that the actor will be back alongside Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter in the Avengers movie. Now, new Avengers art showcases how that could happen.
On X, @jacobcrump10 imagined what Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom going after Chris Evans’ Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday could look like.

The fan art is themed like a comic book cover, with Doctor Doom arriving at Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s house, which was seen in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame. The caption teases how Doom is not who Steve and Peggy think he is, a connection to Downey being behind the villain and Iron Man.
Could Doctor Doom Go After Steve Rogers In Avengers: Doomsday?
Over the past month, Avengers: Doomsday has been filming scenes at a house that is rumored to be Steve and Peggy’s. So far, Marvel has yet to officially announce that Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell are returning for the Avengers movie. Neither actor has been spotted shooting scenes for the project. Still, the rumors could prove to be true.
Downey’s Doctor Doom going after Evans’ Captain America would make sense for a few reasons. A possible story path is that Doom needs Steve Rogers’ help for his plans, and since the villain bears the MCU Tony Stark’s face, he could manipulate Captain America into helping him. There is also a dark twist to the characters’ dynamic that could work for Avengers: Doomsday.
When he decided to go back in time in Avengers: Endgame to live with Peggy, Steve created a branched timeline. With likely several years of intervening in events as Captain America when Steve was supposed to be on ice, who is to say how many branches he has created? Doom could be trying to stop him from doing just that.
Our Take On Whether Doctor Doom Could Go After Steve Rogers In Avengers: Doomsday
If Chris Evans is truly in Avengers: Doomsday, as reported, it would only make sense that Marvel Studios would put him opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom on the big screen. After all, the actors are the faces of the MCU. Additionally, one of Marvel’s best movies, Captain America: Civil War, showed the enormous potential when Evans and Downey are on different sides.
The branched timeline Steve Rogers created in Avengers: Endgame feels like the perfect way for Marvel to fold him into the events of the Avengers movie. The next two Avengers films should focus on incursions and how branched timelines and alternate universes play a role in them. Doctor Doom being after Steve would work perfectly for Avengers: Doomsday.
