A Marvel Cinematic Universe star who made his debut in 2024 addresses returning for Avengers: Doomsday. While Phase 6 just kicked off this summer with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, only a handful of movies and TV shows are left in The Multiverse Saga, which will conclude in 2027.
Marvel Studios is currently working on the big team-up entry, which will bring the franchise up against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, as Victor von Doom is finally making his debut in the MCU. While several returning characters are confirmed, details are still being kept under wraps about the overall story.
In a new Variety feature, Channing Tatum revealed that he got hurt during the filming of Avengers: Doomsday in London. Being used for close-ups while having to be sidelined as his double takes on the heavier stunts, Tatum shared the following about his 2026 return:
We had tons more shooting [including a] “big fight” [with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom] I’m not gonna go full Cajun. [Directors Anthony and Joe Russo] want things to be funny, but they don’t want to go full ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. They want to keep the drama and keep it тιԍнт. When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter.
Tatum made his debut as Remy LeBeau in 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, where Wade Wilson and Logan discover him as one of the fallen heroes in The Void. The 45-year-old star was one of several actors announced for the 2026 film during a surprise Marvel Studios live-stream in March 2025.
What Channing Tatum’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments Mean
Despite Tatum’s awful injury, it is clear from his comments that his role as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast isn’t necessarily being cut from the story. The biggest impact is definitely concerning the more physically intense work, such as action scenes, for which his stunt double would naturally have to fill in for him.
It makes sense that they are approaching the Cajun accent differently for the new film. While his 2024 debut came with serious moments, the actor’s next MCU appearance will be part of a significantly darker story, filled with more stakes, which would make his original accent incredibly distracting, given how it was comedically received.
Our Take On Channing Tatum’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments
Based on his comments, Tatum is definitely in recovery mode for the next couple of months, which will hopefully be a speedy one for the beloved star. It’s normal for accidents to occur on film sets, especially when they involve action.
If Gambit ends up being back as part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast, time will tell if they will wait for production to start until he has fully recovered. But audience members can still look forward to seeing the iconic X-Men hero in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.
