A Marvel Cinematic Universe that did not do well in theaters is now a hit on streaming, and that could directly help Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios has already revealed several actors who will be part of the cast of the next Avengers movie. While some surprises are expected, especially due to the film’s multiverse nature, the core cast has been unveiled.
The MCU’s 2025 movies will be important to Avengers: Doomsday in that way, as their characters are going to return in the film. Of the three movies, one of them ended up having the most disappointing MCU box office of the year. However, the film has found new life on streaming, and Avengers: Doomsday‘s story could be better off for it.
Thunderbolts* Has Become A Hit On Disney+
Thunderbolts* recently arrived on Disney+, debuting in 3rd place on the streamer’s charts. Since then, the MCU movie has picked up even more steam. The team-up film managed to climb Disney+’s charts, with Thunderbolts* now topping the streamer’s Top Ten Movies list worldwide (via FlixPatrol). After Thunderbolts* ended its global box office run with just $382 million, the update is exciting.
Its streaming performance is more in line with Thunderbolts*‘s reviews than its poor box office. After all, the MCU movie boasts a high 88% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even more impressive 93% audience score. Thunderbolts* has now confirmed its status as a streaming hit after climbing Disney+’s charts, and that connects to Avengers: Doomsday due to its ending.
Thunderbolts*’s Streaming Success Bodes Well For Avengers: Doomsday
The Thunderbolts will be directly connected to the next two Avengers movies. After all, Thunderbolts*‘s shocking ending saw Valentina Allegra de Fontaine announce to the world that the team is now the MCU’s New Avengers. In its post-credits scene, Thunderbolts* had a time jump that saw the team in Avengers uniforms, operating out of the original Avengers Tower.
The New Avengers and Sam Wilson’s Avengers team have also been teased to be at odds over who can use the “Avengers” name. With the team catching the first glimpse of the Fantastic Four’s spaceship in the MCU’s main universe, the characters from Thunderbolts* should play a major role in Avengers: Doomsday.
With Thunderbolts*‘s box office falling short of expectations, it would have been harder to make the team work in such a key role in Avengers: Doomsday if not many fans had watched the team’s debut beforehand. However, with Thunderbolts* now a smash hit on streaming, the MCU’s next Avengers movie gets a boost, as more fans will be invested in the New Avengers.
