Tom Holland’s future with the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets addressed ahead of his Spider-Man: Brand New Day return. After Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending from 2021, Peter Parker is getting ready to make his way back to the big screen in 2026.
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast is currently busy filming the big Phase 6 installment, which will be the final movie before Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with the two movies set to wrap up The Multiverse Saga. While it remains to be seen if the web-crawler will be in those films, many expect him to be back.
LADbible recently interviewed Holland, asking about his future with the MCU franchise and how long he sees himself playing the Marvel icon, after first taking on the role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. As 2026 will mark a decade since first appearing on-screen as the beloved superhero, the 29-year-old actor shared the following:
I think with anything, it’s all about what’s in front of you, and right now what’s in front of us is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film. I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that’s been my driving force in these pitch meetings. I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it’s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans]. In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don’t know the answer to that.
While LADbible also asked if his new suit was drawn from any specific comic inspirations, the outlet noted that “Holland was тιԍнт-lipped, saying that it might be a spoiler to reference which inspired the new suit.“ However, the British star gave the following response about getting to be involved with the process this time around:
What’s been really fun about this most recent movie is designing the suit and being a part of that process and understanding what we wanted to try and achieve.
What Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Suit & Future Comments Mean
When it comes to the background and inspiration for the new suit, it makes sense that Holland doesn’t want to share too much, especially if it plays a vital part in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day story. Given the huge excitement surrounding his latest costume, the less that is known about it before the film opens, the better.
As far as his time with the web-slinger goes, since the franchise is getting a reset with the end of The Multiverse Saga, it’s also understandable if Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures haven’t planned that far ahead yet for Holland. Even if they have, those plans would likely not be revealed until they are ready to disclose more about Phase 7.
Our Take On Tom Holland’s Latest Spider-Man Comments
It’s hard to imagine that Spider-Man will be recast anytime soon, given how popular Holland’s iteration has become with the audience. If anything, these latest comments are likely the superhero veteran having to remain coy, especially if there are negotiations going on for him to keep reprising the role after Phase 6.
However, at some point, Peter’s time in the MCU timeline will come to an end, but when that will happen does not necessarily have to be soon, as there are still plenty of stories to tell with him. Hopefully, more details on Holland’s future with the MCU after Spider-Man: Brand New Day will emerge sooner rather than later.
