Rebecca Ferguson has long been one of Hollywood’s most underrated talents, but since her breakout with The White Queen, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination, she has gained well-deserved attention in the last decade for projects including the Mission: Impossible movies and The Greatest Showman.
Now, Ferguson is a vital star in the fantasy-sci-fi space thanks to her leading role in the Emmy-nominated dystopian series Silo and her portrayal of Lady Jessica Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies. Ferguson is confirmed for the upcoming Silo season 3 and likely Dune: Part Three.
But first, she will appear on-screen with the A-list MCU star Idris Elba in a new political thriller. Breaking out with the milestone HBO drama series The Wire, Elba is a seven-time Primetime Emmy nominee and has starred in an impressive range of beloved movies, from Beasts of No Nation to Sonic the Hedgehog to Thor: Ragnarok.
Kathryn Bigelow’s A House Of Dynamite Debuts With Strong Rotten Tomatoes Score
Following its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, A House of Dynamite, starring Rebecca Fetugson and Idris Elba, has earned a strong debut Rotten Tomatoes score. A House of Dynamite is the first movie in eight years from Kathryn Bigelow, the Oscar-winning director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.
A House of Dynamite, written by Noah Oppenheim, is a political thriller depicting White House staff (taking place mostly inside the White House) dealing with unfolding panic as a nuclear missile strike is launched on the United States. Ferguson plays Captain Olivia Walker, a senior White House official trying to keep the government working while Elba’s (currently unnamed) security advisor comes up with a plan.
Reactions to A House of Dynamite from critics at Venice have been extremely positive, with Pete Hammdon of ᴅᴇᴀᴅline Hollywood Daily reporting that it “is a wake-up call, a cold shower, a reckoning, and one hell of a motion picture achievement.” The movie will be released on Netflix on October 24.
Also starring Greta Lee, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Gabriel Bᴀsso, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, and Jason Clarke, A House of Dynamite currently has a 92% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, aggregated from 12 reviews.
What This RT Score Means For A House Of Dynamite
A House of Dynamite still has a lot of compeтιтion to contend with when it comes to the upcoming awards season, even if it is one of the best movies to come out of Venice this year, alongside The Smashing Machine and The Testament of Ann Lee, also both receiving strong initial Rotten Tomatoes scores.
This festival debut may simply allow A House of Dynamite to have a fantastic reception when it is available to general audiences, allowing the warning of the movie that many critics note to reach far and wide. But given the director’s past accolades and her effective tackling of the subject matter in this picture, it could turn out to be her next big Oscars hit.
