We’re Officially Just 2 Weeks Away From DC’s Next Batman Movie

With 2025 now moving into September, we’re only a few weeks away from the next upcoming Batman movie’s release. When it comes to the superhero genre, few have as strong a grip on audiences’ hearts and minds as that of DC’s Dark Knight, with his collected movie empire having made $8 billion in terms of its box office gross alone.

This reflects a level of consistent popularity that few other superheroes – or even other characters more broadly speaking – can compete with, and a reputation that also means the matter of the next impending Batman movie is always an exciting one. Thankfully, audiences won’t have to wait long for the Caped Crusader’s next film installment.

Batman’s Next Movie Will Be Released Very Soon

While The Batman 2 and the DCU Batman movie The Brave & The Bold are still years away, fans of the Dark Knight do have a film offering coming far sooner than either of these installments.

This is in the form of Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires – also known as Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios – which is set for theatrical release in Mexico on September 18, 2025, and on HBO Max on September 19, 2025.

Currently, this means that the film’s debut is just over two weeks away, and that the next movie installment for Batman is far sooner than many may have previously been aware of. That said, Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires has received a July trailer and an August trailer, showcasing the film’s Elseworlds take on the Dark Knight.

Why Batman’s Next Movie Is So Unique

Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is an interesting addition to the Batman movie landscape because it further explores the concept of an Elseworlds story – that is, a story set in an alternate universe that addresses what the hero’s life could have been like had the circumstances around it been different.

This concept is one that initially came to be in DC’s comics, with different Elseworlds stories exploring versions of Batman in different time periods, parts of the world, and drastically different overall contexts – such as a version of Batman who eventually becomes a vampire.

As such, it makes sense that Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is quite different to conventional live-action Batman movies, and that its closely impending debut offers an opportunity to see a version of the character whose story instead unfolds in the Aztec empire.

While the DCU labels “Elseworlds” projects as projects outside of the main cinematic universe that releases like Superman are set in, Aztec Batman is a more classical approach to the concept, akin to other releases like Gotham By Gaslight and Batman: Gotham Noir. As it stands, this should make seeing the Batman film upon its release all the more interesting.
