James Gunn’s DC Universe franchise finally confirms the Joker in DC Studios’ new superhero reboot through the Clayface movie. The DCU timeline is working hard on its reboot for the Dark Knight, as The Brave and the Bold movie is still in development, but that is just the start.
The other Batman-related film tied to the DCU that is currently filming is the Clayface movie, which will bring one of Bruce Wayne’s most powerful enemies to life on the big screen. This will also mark the first R-rated movie for DC Studios within the main continuity, with James Watkins directing.
As principal pH๏τography is underway in Liverpool, U.K., new Clayface set pH๏τos are emerging, providing more clues about the larger world of Gotham City in Gunn’s DCU franchise. @lilyfnrose recently shared several new images that include a first reference to Batman’s most famous super-villain.

While there are no actors from the cast featured in the images, it’s the several posters and graffiti designs on the walls that are garnering attention. One of them lists “The Jokers,” an obvious nod to DC’s Joker, marking the first callout to the Batman enemy in the DCU.
What The Joker Easter Egg Means For Clayface
Even though this Joker Easter egg is apparently included in the Clayface movie, that doesn’t mean the Clown Prince of Crime himself will show up in the DCU entry. If anything, it’s to highlight more of Gotham City rather than introducing the actual DC foe in Tom Rhys Harries’ outing, with more potential references spread throughout the story.
Given how the DCU is established to already have various heroes and villains at large, it’s not a shock that Joker is around, to the point where he may have already garnered his own followers. It also wouldn’t be a surprise if there was also a gang known as The Jokers running around in the city.
Our Take On The Joker Easter Egg
While fans should not expect to see Joker in Clayface, it’s great to know that the DCU is finally starting to set up more connections to the Caped Crusader and his mᴀssive rogues’ gallery. It also lines up with how The Brave and the Bold movie will center on the Bat-Family, since they are already operating in this universe.
From what has been revealed in other Clayface set pH๏τos, the DC horror flick is looking very promising, as it will be exciting to see how DC Studios tackles an R-rated film within Gunn’s franchise. Hopefully, more clues about Clayface will arrive in the coming weeks, including what the super-villain will actually look like in the movie.
