Chris Hemsworth has addressed Thor 5‘s chances in a new Marvel Cinematic Universe update, and the film could lead to a major plot point returning. 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder ended up being a disappointment, with Hemsworth later admitting that he lost himself a bit in the movie’s comedic tone. It sits low in the MCU Thor movie franchise.
Despite the controversial status of Thor’s latest MCU solo film, the hero will be back for what should be a major role as part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. As it stands, he is the only original Avenger confirmed for the film, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom, not Iron Man.
Now, Hemsworth addresses his future beyond the upcoming MCU movie, touching on whether Thor 5 could happen. In the past, the actor seemed open to returning for another Thor movie. Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2022, Hemsworth also made it sound like a return to the Marvel Studios timeline could also result in Thor’s death. A new update has emerged.
Chris Hemsworth Has Addressed Thor 5’s Chances
Speaking with the BBC, Chris Hemsworth was asked whether Thor 5 could happen. The actor did not confirm either way, saying, “I don’t know. We’ll see where this one goes.” The movie he refers to is Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in development. According to the Marvel star, the franchise is figuring out where each character goes after the film.
Theoretically, Thor could go from the Avengers movie to Thor 5 before returning for Avengers: Secret Wars. Alternatively, the next solo movie for the God of Thunder could take place after the upcoming Avengers movies. What is key is that Hemsworth still seems to love playing Thor and would be back as long as Marvel wants him. Check out the full quote below:
“I don’t know. We’ll see where this one goes. We are unpacking that as we speak, and figuring out where each of these characters goes. I’m just thankful for being involved with this one at Marvel, back together with a lot of the old cast, and then the new cast. It’s something I certainly love. We’ll see what happens.”
Thor 5 Could Finally Pay Off Hercules’ MCU Debut
With Hemsworth leaving the door open for Thor 5 to happen, Marvel Studios could finally fulfill a three-year-old promise. One of the biggest issues in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga comes from characters and storylines that are introduced and never followed up on for years. Thor: Love and Thunder is part of that problem, as Brett Goldstein’s Hercules has been missing since his debut.
The character was teased to go after Thor for what he did to his father, Zeus. With the many characters and events in play for the next two Avengers movies, Hercules would feel out of place. His story with Thor is better suited for a solo movie. With Hemsworth keeping the door open for Thor 5, the chances of that battle happening increase.
