Alan Tudyk has already become a huge part of the DCU, but his roles in the nascent franchise don’t yet hold a candle to the role he played in another 98%-rated DC show. That is not to say that Tudyk’s DCU work is substandard, but that his prior work set an impossibly high bar.
Alan Tudyk is one of the most prolific actors in DC’s extensive media catalog. As one of Hollywood’s most in-demand voice actors, he has voiced his fair share of characters across DC’s media platforms, including Barry Allen/The Flash in the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Tudyk is also no stranger to DC’s live-action offerings, to a degree, although he mostly lends his voice to CGI-generated characters within such movies and shows. Nevertheless, not only is Tudyk’s best DC role yet within a live-action adaptation, but it also features the voice actor in person, albeit briefly.
Alan Tudyk’s Doom Patrol Role Is One Of His Best
Doom Patrol is one of DC’s most madcap productions, focusing on a misfit band of superpowered individuals who inadvertently earned their strange array of powers through various accidents. The тιтular team comprises such obscure characters as Crazy Jane, Elasti-Woman, Negative Man, Robotman, Cyborg, and The Chief.
Alan Tudyk portrays season 1’s arch-villain, Eric Morden, AKA Mr. Nobody. Mr. Nobody is a pervasive figure within season 1, not simply because he ᴀssumes the role of the team’s main nemesis, but also because he narrates the entire season. Thanks to his mind-bending powers, however, this narration is more than a commentary voice-over.
Instead, Mr. Nobody directly manipulates events and consistently breaks the fourth wall, due to his powers of reality-warping and near-omniscience. It is easily one of the most interesting uses of a villain and their superpowers that any superhero production has conceived. Doom Patrol even drops the use of narration in subsequent seasons, further highlighting the impact of Tudyk’s role.
Alan Tudyk’s role only lasts for the first season, but it’s safe to say he made an impact. Doom Patrol boasts a 98% average rating across its four seasons on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 1 achieving a 97% score. Tudyk is praised for his scene-stealing role, portraying a villain who is as hilarious as he is sinister and sadistic.
Alan Tudyk’s DCU Roles Are Good, But Haven’t Gotten Doom Patrol’s Depth Yet

The DCU has so far released two full productions, Creature Commandos and Superman, with Peacemaker season 2 currently underway with weekly episodes. Alan Tudyk has already starred in both, portraying the Superman Robot #4 (later dubbed “Gary“) in Superman, and Doctor Phosphorous and Clayface in Creature Commandos.
Needless to say, Tudyk excels in his DCU roles, with his characters already becoming swift fan favorites for their charisma and comedic timing. Nevertheless, with both being smaller roles in a much larger universe, it is difficult for them to shine as much as Mr. Nobody.
Tudyk’s Mr. Nobody is frankly formidable, with a fourth-wall-breaking irreverence that evokes such iconic characters as ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. Tudyk is no stranger to comedic roles, but to embody a reality-warping villain with such a humorous spin adds a depth unlike anything he has yet portrayed in the DCU.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
