Fantastic Four: First Steps Becomes First MCU Movie Of 2025 To Pᴀss Huge Global Box Office Milestone

The Fantastic Four: First Steps has pᴀssed a major box office milestone. The movie, which introduces the тιтular foursome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the 37th installment in the interconnected superhero franchise. It is the third to premiere in 2025, after Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. The next installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, isn’t scheduled until 2026.

2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuted with $117.6 million, which was the MCU’s biggest domestic opening weekend of the year. However, it cratered in its sophomore weekend with a 67.1% drop, which was one of the franchise’s worst. Nevertheless, it has slowly and steadily continued to climb the charts in subsequent weeks.

Per The Numbers, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has hit a global box office total of $505.1 million by the middle of the Labor Day holiday weekend, which is its sixth weekend in theaters. This total comprises a $264.6 million gross from domestic theaters and an additional $240.5 million from international markets.

This makes Fantastic Four only the ninth movie of 2025 to pᴀss the mᴀssive $500 million global milestone, behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Superman, F1 The Movie, How to Train Your Dragon, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Sтιтch, and Ne Zha II.

Additionally, it is the first and only MCU movie to hit this milestone in 2025, as it has far outstripped both Captain America: Brave New World ($415.1 million worldwide) and Thunderbolts* ($382.4 million).

What This Means For The Fantastic Four: First Steps

In spite of hitting this major milestone, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is still having trouble climbing up the all-time chart of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. After all, the lucrative superhero franchise, which has collectively grossed more than $32 billion worldwide, has already had 26 other installments gross more than $500 million.

Regardless of its position in the overall MCU, this milestone is vitally important. The reported budget of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is roughly $200 million. While its exact break-even point is unknown, movies often need to earn back two and a half times their budgets in theaters, which could place its estimated break-even point at around $500 million.

As the weeks wore on, it became less and less certain that The Fantastic Four: First Steps would be able to meet that estimated break-even point. However, now that it has, it seems certain to at the very least turn a modest profit, especially once it is boosted by revenue from its upcoming digital and streaming releases.
