Austin Butler‘s newest crime thriller is continuing an impressive Rotten Tomatoes streak for the star. The actor had his humble beginnings in various small roles in Disney and Nickelodeon projects, including Hannah Montana and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. While he also had supporting roles, such as Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, it wasn’t until 2022 that he had his biggest break yet.
Butler earned rave reviews for his uncanny portrayal of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. Not only did his incredible performance land him on the map in Hollywood, but it also secured his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Since then, the award-winning actor has remained one of the most sought-after actors, having portrayed the diabolical Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune: Part Two.
Caught Stealing Continues An Impressive 6-Year Rotten Tomatoes Streak For Austin Butler
Butler is back in action with his new crime thriller, Caught Stealing. Based on the book by Charlie Huston, the adaptation stars the Oscar nominee as Hank, an innocent bystander caught in the middle of a cat-and-mouse chase with dangerous people. Directed by Black Swan‘s Darren Aronofsky, Caught Stealing‘s cast also includes Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Regina King, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
While Caught Stealing has secured an 84% Tomatometer based on 147 reviews, audiences are equally enjoying the adaptation thanks to an 85% Rotten Tomatoes audience score. That means in the last six years since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, all his movies have received a positive Popcornmeter.
What This Rotten Tomatoes Streak Means For Austin Butler
This Rotten Tomatoes streak proves that Butler is one of the most in-demand actors, who clearly has a knack for picking the perfect script. That stems from the star’s incredible performance as Elvis Presley, which has put him on the radar among many filmmakers, including Denis Villeneuve and Ari Aster. This has led to his appearances in Dune: Part Two and, most recently, Eddington.

On the other hand, while reviews for Caught Stealing are positive, the adaptation is projected to make just below $10 million at the domestic box office. It’s not the most stellar debut, given that the movie has a $40 million budget. However, even if the thriller doesn’t perform well financially, it can still gain traction on streaming, and the word-of-mouth will help its case.
After Caught Stealing, however, Butler looks to be slowing down since he only has one other movie lined up. Enemies, which will also star The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White, is currently in post-production. While casting rumors about Heat 2 and the new American Psycho movie may have been dispelled, it clearly won’t be the last that audiences will see of Butler because he is only getting started.
