How Does LEGO Star Wars’ New Chopper Model Compare To R2-D2?

The LEGO Group recently released a brand-new Star Wars model of Chopper, aka C1-10P. One of the best new Star Wars LEGO sets released in 2025 thus far, Chopper is one of the newer models in LEGO’s subtheme of brick-built and beloved droids. Most of these LEGO droids are to scale with each other, like 2024’s R2-D2.

Having first debuted in Star Wars Rebels, Chopper is a stubborn astromech who’s a little rougher around the edges compared to R2-D2. However, Chops has become nearly as iconic as Artoo himself. As such, it’s pretty fun that LEGO has recently released large-scale sets of both astromechs. Here’s how this year’s new Chopper model compares to last year’s RD-D2.

Released at the beginning of May in Celebration of Star Wars Day, Chopper (C1-10P) Astromech Droid (75416) has been a very popular model for several Star Wars collectors. After all, the little orange astromech was just recently featured in 2023’s Ahsoka series, Chopper’s first full live-action role beyond a brief Rogue One cameo.

Likewise, the price-per-piece ratio is quite fair, with the new Chopper set consisting of just over 1,000 pieces for $100 (10 cents per piece). Like most of these larger-scale droid models, Chopper (75416) also comes with a display plaque featuring a full list of specs, along with a minifigure of the droid itself.

All in all, the total time it took to build LEGO’s new Chopper model was just over two hours at a leisurely pace. At the onset, the building techniques used were quite similar to last year’s R2-D2 (75379), at least as far as the internals are concerned.

Externally, Chopper is a lot less symmetrical and/or uniform compared to Artoo. As such, there are some different features incorporated into the build that I really enjoyed, like the small arms protruding from his dome, or the lever on his back allowing his entire head to move from side to side.

Last but not least, Chopper’s middle wheel looks absolutely perfect, replacing the average astromech’s traditional third leg. In all honesty, the only thing that would have made LEGO’s new Chopper build better would be if it came with a sound brick so we could hear Chop’s signature grumbles and complaints (provided on-screen by Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni).

Comparing LEGO’s New Chopper With Last Year’s R2-D2

Likewise, the mix of orange, yellow, white, and gray pieces makes for a great droid build visually, contrasting well with Artoo’s blue, white, and grey.

It would have been nice if Chopper’s accessories and attachments could be stored inside his central body like with the Artoo model. However, this was likely too difficult, as Chopper is about a half-head shorter than R2-D2. Canonically, Chopper is 0.99 meters tall next to Artoo’s 1.09, official Star Wars factoids that are indeed featured on their respective information plaques.

This also means that both astromechs are also to scale with LEGO’s C-3PO model, which was also released last year. At any rate, the two beloved astros look great together on the shelf, and it’s very nice to see the level of care and detail given to both new LEGO Star Wars models.
