KPop Demon Hunters continues to dominate the movie landscape, having just been announced as the most-watched movie of all time on Netflix, beating out blockbusters with some of the biggest movie stars of all time. A sequel hasn’t been officially announced, but the inevitable continuation is moving forward as Netflix begins planning KPop Demon Hunters 2.
While a lot of Demon Hunters’ success can be attributed to the film’s record-breaking soundtrack, the film’s story and characters also helped to propel the movie into the stratosphere. The villains were great, and the supporting characters were all fun, but the central trio of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey was absolutely one of the biggest reasons that the movie was so enjoyable.
As great as the film was, a KPop Demon Hunters sequel would need to make some big changes if the movie wants to find the same amount of success as the first. One big character change could shake things up and make the sequel even more interesting to see.
Zoey Or Mira Should Be The Main Character In KPop Demon Hunters 2
While KPop Demon Hunters was focused on HUNTR/X as a group and their internal dynamics, Rumi was undoubtedly the protagonist of the film. She was given the biggest character arc, and brought about the most change in the story, from her redeeming Jinu and ultimately coming in during Demon Hunters’ ending to save Zoey and Mira from Gwi-Ma.
Zoey and Mira were relegated to being supporting characters, existing mostly to help Rumi progress along her character arc. That’s not a bad thing, as it helped the movie stay laser-focused on Rumi’s journey as it introduced an entirely new world of demons and hunters, but it did leave the other two HUNTR/X members feeling a little underserved.

Even in their more limited screen time, Zoey and Mira both made a great impression and cemented themselves as solid parts of this universe. KPop Demon Hunters’ sequel should build off the base that the first movie set up, and give either of the other girls a chance to show off more layers to their characters.
Rumi should obviously still be a part of the next film, but simply moved to a more supporting position, as her character has already been explored to a great degree. The next movie could give a deeper glimpse into Zoey or Mira’s history, and what specifically drove them to become hunters alongside Rumi.
There is surely more drama to derive from their pasts and recent developments that a sequel can explore. Additionally, seeing as there will probably be multiple sequels, it would be awesome to see each of the girls have a KPop Demon Hunters movie dedicated to them.
