For the past 10 weeks, KPop Demon Hunters has been dominating Netflix‘s global chart. This week, it reached 236 million views to become Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time, surpᴀssing Red Notice (2021) at 230.9 million views. However, there have been a few Netflix films that have briefly dethroned the animated musical on their weekly Global Top 10 chart.
These тιтles include Tyler Perry’s psychological thriller Straw, Charlize Theron’s superhero sequel The Old Guard 2, Adam Sandler’s sequel Happy Gilmore 2, which held the top spot for two straight weeks, and, most recently, the romantic dramedy My Oxford Year. However, this week, KPop Demon Hunters took back the first-place spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart.
Though KPop Demon Hunters took back the top spot, Netflix’s new steamy thriller has also finished atop its global charts, and though it didn’t outperform their musical smash hit, which received another 25.4 million views, its performance is still noteworthy.
Fall For Me Becomes A Global Netflix Hit
Fall for Me has become a global hit on Netflix. Directed by Sherry Hormann, with a script written by Stefanie Sycholt, Netflix’s new erotic thriller follows a German woman who travels to Spain to visit her sister, who is engaged to a Frenchman, and after meeting a nightclub manager and forming an instant connection, events soon take a dark turn.
The cast includes Svenja Jung, Theo Trebs, Thomas Kretschmann, Tijan Marei, Victor Meutelet, Antje Traue, and Lucía Barrado.
Shortly after its release on August 21. Fall for Me ranks first on Netflix’s Global Top 10 non-English movies with 16.5 million views and 28.8 million hours viewed for the week of August 18-24. It ranks above Abandoned Man, Gold Rush Gang, The Courier, Maa, Maareesan, Brick, Exterritorial, Counterattack, and Norma: Antara Mertua dan Menantu.
Fall for Me finished as the number one non-English movie on Netflix in 37 countries this week, including Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and many more.
Our Take On Fall For Me’s Netflix Success
While Netflix’s new movie may be trending since it’s a steamy erotic thriller, it doesn’t seem like many people are actually enjoying it. Reviews from critics point to shallow characters, a predictable plot, and visuals that subsтιтute postcard-like scenery for any real depth or suspense.
Audience reactions echo the same sentiment, with many describing the film as boring, amateurish, and a predictable slog dressed up with explicit scenes. While only a handful enjoyed the chemistry and setting, many can’t get past the weak dialogue and unlikable characters, making Fall for Me a far more forgettable affair than a thrilling one.
