Dune and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga actress Anya Taylor-Joy is set to star alongside Knives Out and the MCU’s Chris Evans in the satirical action-adventure movie Sacrifice, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6. Sacrifice is directed by Romain Gavras, who co-wrote the script alongside Will Arbery.
Sacrifice follows Joan (Taylor-Joy), a grieving daughter who embraces a mysterious prophecy that instructs her to cleanse the Earth. She and her siblings hijack a star-studded celebrity benefit, where they select three hostages from the attendees: washed-up film star Mike Tyler (Evans), calculating billionaire Ben Bracken (Vincent Cᴀssel) and their shared lover Katie (Ambika Mod).
Via Elevation Pictures on X, Gavras premiered a first look on Friday at Sacrifice: an image of Evans and Taylor-Joy staring intently at one another and holding hands in a comforting gesture, with him in black-tie attire and her armed and dressed for a fight.

Sacrifice also features Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich, Charli XCX, and Jonatan “Yung Lean” Leandoer.
What This First Look Means For Sacrifice
The multiple production companies behind Sacrifice and the marketing team at TIFF chose an especially great image to tease the upcoming film, suggesting that the characters’ relationships will not be simple, and the narrative will explore different senses of responsibility for the planet. On the other hand, it’s not clear when Sacrifice will release theatrically after TIFF.
This means it could be some time before the movie secures a distributor and is available in theaters. However, even these tidbits are enough to get people interested in the new “satirical thriller.” Hopefully, fans of Evans, Taylor-Joy, and the rest of the cast won’t have to wait too long to see if this is actually one of their best movies.
Our Take On Chris Evans & Anya Taylor-Joy In Sacrifice
I really want to see Sacrifice based on the premise alone, but I am certainly more interested because of Evans and Taylor-Joy’s involvement. Keeping in mind that one of Chris Evans’ best movies is Snowpiercer, it will be very rewarding to see him return to something potentially similar. It would be very unfortunate if Sacrifice stumbles and doesn’t live up to all it has to offer.
