Weapons Lands On Major All-Time Box Office Chart After Just 3 Weeks In Theaters

Weapons has landed on an important box office chart. The new horror movie from Barbarian director Zach Cregger follows a small town rocked by mysterious disappearances and boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Amy Madigan, and Benedict Wong.

Weapons debuted at No. 1 at the domestic box office on the weekend of August 8, also claiming No. 1 over its sophomore weekend. While it was poised to take No. 1 for a third consecutive weekend, Netflix’s sing-along presentation of their smash hit KPop Demon Hunters knocked it to No. 2. Nevertheless, the horror movie has continued to excel.

Per The Numbers, Weapons has reached a cumulative domestic box office total of $122.2 million by the end of its third weekend in theaters. This is enough to land it on the chart of the Top 20 highest-grossing horror movies of all time at the domestic box office, at No. 20.

To accomplish this feat, it surpᴀssed the $117.4 million domestic gross of the Conjuring spinoff The Nun, which has occupied a spot in the Top 20 since it debuted in 2018.

What This Means For Weapons

It remains to be seen how high 2025’s Weapons can climb up the all-time domestic chart for horror movies by the time it ends its theatrical run. However, ᴅᴇᴀᴅline reports that projections for the movie’s fourth weekend show it earning at least an additional $11 million at the domestic box office by Labor Day.

That total alone would be enough for Weapons to climb an additional three spots up the chart, surpᴀssing the domestic totals of Nope ($123.3 million), The Ring ($129.1 million), and The Silence of the Lambs ($130.7 million) to hit No. 17.

Weapons is currently on track to outgross Final Destination Bloodlines ($138.1 million), which is No. 14. If it does so by roughly $2 million, it could outgross The Blair Witch Project ($140.5 million) to surge to No. 11. However, it may not be able to make the Top 10, which would require it to outgross 2018’s Halloween ($159.4 million).

Our Take On The Weapons Box Office

This total, which is being propelled by word of mouth and glowing Weapons reviews that have seen the movie earn a Certified Fresh 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, is not quite enough for the movie to have a similarly high place on the all-time global chart for horror movies. It is currently only No. 33 worldwide.

However, this domestic accomplishment is still major for Weapons. In addition to landing on a historic chart after just three weeks, it’s only the ninth original movie in the Top 20 after Sinners (No. 2), A Quiet Place (No. 5), Get Out (No. 6), Us (No. 7), The Blair Witch Project, Split (No. 13), The Conjuring (No. 15), and Nope.
