Ana De Armas Suits Up As Wonder Woman Following James Gunn’s Recent DCU Update In DC Art

Ana de Armas becomes the next Wonder Woman in DC Universe art. When James Gunn ᴀssumed DC Studios as its creative chief alongside Peter Safran, the duo revealed the first few projects in the DCU Chapter One. Only one of them relates to Diana Prince, the Paradise Lost series, which is set to explore the rich history of Themyscira’s Amazons.

For a long time after Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 was cancelled, DC released no real updates on the status of a new Wonder Woman film. However, that has since changed in a major way. The DCU Wonder Woman movie, a reboot without Gadot, is now a priority for DC, with writer Ana Nogueira attached. De Armas is a popular candidate among fans.

On DeviantArt, Minsc93 shared fan art of what Ana de Armas could look like as the DCU Wonder Woman.

The art does not break tradition for the Wonder Woman movie franchise, with de Armas donning the same armored Wonder Woman suit worn by Gadot in the DCEU movie timeline. Besides Diana’s classic body armor, the actress also sports Wonder Woman’s tiara.

Since the fan art is not an official representation of DC’s plans for the character, it does not directly impact Ana de Armas’ chances of being cast as Wonder Woman for James Gunn’s DCU. The actress has franchise experience, recently leading a spinoff of Keanu Reeves’ acclaimed John Wick action film series, Ballerina. De Armas was believable as a skilled fighter.

The actress’ action credentials do not stop at Ballerina, with de Armas showing how she could bring Wonder Woman’s determination and warrior status to life through projects like the 007 movie No Time to Die and Ghosted. The actress can also mix drama and comedy easily, making her Wonder Woman versatile and charismatic. De Armas is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses.

With Gadot out, a few names have emerged as favorites among fans for DC’s next Wonder Woman. Alexandra Daddario, Adria Arjona, and de Armas seem to be at the top of the list, though James Gunn has yet to reveal any possible names in connection to the role.

In 2023, de Armas addressed rumors that she could take over as Wonder Woman. Back then, the situation regarding Gadot was still unclear, which led to the actress telling WIRED that there was no need for her to play Diana Prince. According to de Armas, “Gal Gadot [was] doing a great job.”

Since then, a lot has changed. DC is firmly moving forward with a new Wonder Woman movie without Gadot. The fan art shows that Ana de Armas would fit in perfectly as the DCU Wonder Woman. With Gadot out, the actress might now be more inclined to play the DC hero. With Wonder Woman casting some time away, de Armas’ chances remain alive.
