Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen, as well as Shadow and Bone‘s Jessie Mei Li and Danielle Galligan, are set to lead the new British sci-fi thriller A Rare Breed, which has reportedly finished production. While Glen has long been an A-lister, Li and Galligan sH๏τ to fame in recent years, playing Alina Starkov and Nina Zenik in Netflix’s prematurely canceled fantasy series.
A Rare Breed will follow two hikers, Mia (Li) and Erin (Galligan), who stumble across the log cabin in the wilderness where veteran Ray (Glen) lives, while he is apparently holding a young girl hostage. Mia and Erin try to help, but Chloe is not what she seems, coupled with them being attacked by a group of mercenaries as part of a bigger conflict.
According to Variety, A Rare Breed also stars Neil Maskell, Conrad Khan, Bronson Webb, and Katelyn Rose Downey; it is the feature directorial debut of Sam Johnson and is based on a screenplay by Callum Henderson. Variety also revealed a first look at the three leads in the movie; check out these images below:
What This Means For Iain Glen, Jessie Mei Li, & Danielle Galligan
This sounds like a very exciting new thriller that hasn’t even fully revealed its sci-fi plot yet, which means it could be taking the approach of a fairly contained and not fully explained supernatural story, something that is very engaging when done right. The leads are all ᴀssociated with the sci-fi-fantasy space, with Glen’s most high-profile project since Game of Thrones arguably being Castlevania: Nocturne.
Members of the Shadow and Bone cast have been doing well in recent years, with Li featuring in Tom Hardy’s Havoc and Archie Renaux starring in both Upgraded and Alien: Romulus. Galligan is one of the stars who has faded somewhat since the series’ end, but in addition to this, she also has Netflix’s docudrama House of Guinness coming up, which Variety notes in their report.
A Rare Breed could be a huge critical hit or fly entirely under the radar, which obviously would have different effects on the careers of the cast, but hopefully, the promising premise and the notoriety of other cast members will make it a successful project that will boost Li and Galligan’s professional status, at the least.
Our Take On A Rare Breed
While A Rare Breed has no official release date, hopefully, moviegoers will not have to wait too long to find out what these bare details of the plot actually mean. Additionally, the Shadow and Bone cast were all fantastic during the show’s two-season run, making it satisfying to see them taking on new projects.
In this case, fans get to see Li and Mei together when Alina and Nina never interacted much. And Iain Glen is one of the old reliables of Game of Thrones fame, who is great in any role. The names attached to A Rare Breed may draw in viewers, but hopefully, they will stay for more amazing work from the actors.
