“Why Am I Not in the Sequel?”: Devil Wears Prada 2 Return Addressed By Star After Subtle Appearance In Original

A star addresses a potential return in The Devil Wears Prada 2 after their subtle appearance in the original. Based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, the 2006 dramedy follows an ambitious journalist, Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who lands a position at a fashion magazine and struggles under the strict demands of her powerful editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).

Based on the novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, the upcoming Devil Wears Prada 2 brings back original cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Tracie Thoms, Tibor Feldman, and Stanley Tucci to reprise their roles from the first film. The original writer and director, Aline Brosh McKenna and David Frankel, have also returned to their respective roles.

During an interview with ScreenRant for The Cut, which releases in theaters on September 5, Caitríona Balfe was asked about a possible return in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The actress addressed her subtle appearance in the original, recalling that she spent two days on set, mostly in a tiny trailer, before briefly striding across the screen in heels as Miranda entered the building.

She credits the job with helping her earn her SAG card and notes she was listed as a “clacker,” one of Vogue‘s fashionable ᴀssistants. Jokingly, she wonders why she hasn’t been asked back for the sequel, considering her very small contribution. Read her full response below:

Oh my God, I know. Why am I not in the sequel?! That whole high heel thing I was in. I did, I think, two days on that film. It helped me get my SAG card, that’s one thing I will say. But I think I sat in my trailer or the tiny, tiny banger trailer one of the days, and then the second day I was walking across the front of the building as Miranda goes in to work. So the very front of the building. I saw Meryl Streep, my heel walked in front of the camera, and I think I was officially down as a clacker. But that’s it.

What This Means For Caitríona Balfe Returning In The Devil Wears Prada 2

Caitríona Balfe began her career as a fashion model, working with Chanel and Louis Vuitton before eventually transitioning to acting with appearances in Super 8 (2011), Now You See Me, and Escape Plan (both 2013), though she is best known for her role as Claire Fraser in Outlander. However, one credit missing from her IMDb is The Devil Wears Prada.

Before, Balfe has confirmed that she made a brief appearance in The Devil Wears Prada. “I worked on it for two days from here down,” she says, gesturing to her midsection. “I was a clacker, I was officially a clacker, one of the girls who works at Vogue and wears high heels… I don’t think you see me, but I was in it,” she admits.

Considering that she had such a small role in the original, and based on her response, it doesn’t seem like Caitríona Balfe will return in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The sequel is currently filming, and she hasn’t been confirmed as one of the returning cast members.

Our Take On Caitríona Balfe Returning In The Devil Wears Prada 2

Though Caitríona Balfe likely isn’t returning in The Devil Wears Prada 2, there should still be several figures from the fashion world who make appearances. The original, for instance, starred Gisele Bündchen and featured cameos from Valentino Garavani, Heidi Klum, and many more. The sequel will feature an appearance from Sydney Sweeney, who has become something of a fashion icon recently for her American Eagle jeans ad campaign.
