The Fantastic Four: First Steps Surges On Disney+ Charts (But There’s A Catch)

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is proving itself a streaming hit with a catch, as the movie is still in theaters. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally had the opportunity to bring Marvel’s First Family home. That has not translated into a major box office success, as the MCU’s last 2025 movie is set to end its run north of $500 million.

That said, it is a solid first step for the franchise, with the Fantastic Four movie being met with overwhelmingly positive reception by critics and fans, including an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score. Those who did not watch the film in theaters will be able to catch the Fantastic Four on streaming before the MCU’s upcoming Avengers movies. But for now, there is a catch.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is not yet available to stream on Disney+. However, Marvel Studios released a preview of the MCU movie on Disney+, and through that, the new version of the Fantastic Four is already climbing the streaming charts. According to data from FlixPatrol, The Fantastic Four: First Steps | A Special Look is currently the 7th most-watched movie on Disney+.

Disney+’s Top Ten Movies list includes only one other MCU movie, which happens to be the release prior to The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* is in the 3rd spot in the chart after being released on the platform on August 27. The fact that a preview for the Fantastic Four movie is so high bodes well for its streaming future.

While The Fantastic Four: First Steps preview might already be surging on the Disney+ charts, fans are looking forward to when they will be able to rewatch the movie at home or see it for the first time. In the past, the theatrical-to-streaming pipeline for Marvel movies used to be a little clearer, but that has since changed.

The MCU Fantastic Four movie could follow the examples of the other two 2025 Marvel films, which would suggest different possible Disney+ release dates. Captain America: Brave New World arrived in theaters on February 14. Sam Wilson flew onto Disney+ on May 28, creating a 103-day window. Based on the Fantastic Four movie’s July 25 release, a November 5 Disney+ debut is possible.

Thunderbolts* sets a different example. The New Avengers arrived in theaters on May 2. Its Disney+ release happened recently, on August 27, marking 117 days from cinemas to fans’ homes. If The Fantastic Four: First Steps were to follow Thunderbolts*‘s formula, the MCU movie would debut on Disney+ on November 19. The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ Disney+ debut is likely reserved for November.
