James Gunn Confirms Whether Chris Pratt Is Playing Batman In DC Universe

The chances of Chris Pratt playing Batman in The Brave and the Bold as part of the DC Universe are addressed by James Gunn. Following the debut of David Corenswet’s Superman in 2025, more Justice League heroes are getting reimagined for Gunn’s new superhero franchise, with several projects in the works for Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters.”

One of the heroes who will be rebooted by DC Studios is Batman in The Brave and the Bold movie, as it is one of the projects that was revealed in January 2023. With a major role like Bruce Wayne coming up for Gunn’s cinematic universe, many are wondering who will be cast as the next Caped Crusader on the big screen.

In a new interview with PelucheEn ElEstuche, Gunn was asked if his former Guardians of the Galaxy star would join the DCU as Batman. According to Gunn, Pratt, who portrays Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will not be tapped as the Dark Knight, but perhaps in another DC role:

James Gunn: As Batman? No. As something else? Yes.

It and It Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti is set to direct The Brave and the Bold for DC Studios, but no release date has been revealed for the film at the time of this story’s publication. While the script is currently being written, the screenwriter also has yet to be confirmed by Gunn, who is involved with the project.

What James Gunn’s Batman Comments Mean

Chris Pratt in Terminal List Dark Wolf

While Pratt is one of Gunn’s bigger stars from his time with the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, it doesn’t mean that DC Studios will want the MCU star as Batman in the DCU. So far, it’s unclear if an A-lister will be cast as the Gotham City hero or if they will look for someone lesser known.

However, it’s not a shock that Gunn is keeping Pratt in mind for a different character in the DCU timeline, given their long history of working together. Since Gunn has already tapped a lot of his collaborators from his previous MCU projects, if there is a right role for Pratt, it’s only a matter of time before that casting happens.

For Batman, many would agree that Pratt isn’t the right fit, and he is likely not going to be part of Gunn’s franchise until his time in the MCU is officially over. However, there are plenty of other DC characters Pratt could be cast as, and Gunn may want him for a role that is also very different from Star-Lord.

As the DCU’s Batman casting process hasn’t even started yet, fans will likely have to wait a while before they find out who is actually going to portray him for DC Studios. But once The Brave and the Bold script is completed, that will finally get the search going for the next actor to portray the DC legend.
