Bryan Singer Sets First Movie In 8 Years After Infamous $910M Biopic Firing

Bryan Singer has officially set his next movie after his firing from a major, Oscar-winning film. Singer is a notable director who began his career in 1993, directing the movie Public Access. This drama thriller focuses on a man who sets up a local cable TV show that seems to expose dark town secrets.

This feature debut paved the way for him to make his much better-known The Usual Suspects. Featuring a superstar cast, The Usual Suspects ended up nominated for two Oscars, both of which it won. Other notable Singer projects include multiple X-Men movies.

As per Variety, Bryan Singer has now officially confirmed his next movie. Though it does not yet have a тιтle, it is said to be a period drama starring Jon Voight. Its plot focuses on the relationship between a father and a son in the Middle East in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Yariv Horovitz, an Israeli director, is also involved.

An inside source predicts that it will be “a huge H๏τbed of controversy” despite being “a really well made film with awards-season potential.” They went on to say that it makes Israel look really bad and could be polarizing.”

What This Means For Bryan Singer

This is huge news for Singer, as it follows his previous ousting from Hollywood. The director was working on Bohemian Rhapsody, the box-office hit Queen biopic. When the movie was mid-production, however, Singer was fired due to unprofessional conduct and absences from the set.

Things got even worse the following year. In 2019, The Atlantic published a major exposé on the director, detailing allegations of Sєxual misconduct towards minors. Though Singer denied the claims, these allegations did not go over well in Hollywood and left Singer out of directing jobs for a while.

As such, this unnamed period drama will be Singer’s first movie in seven years. This, in and of itself, is likely to be controversial. Especially given the advancements in awareness following the #MeToo movement, Singer’s multiple past controversies may hurt the film’s success potential when it comes to both the box office and awards.

If the Singer-Voight collaboration does nothing else, it will generate conversation. Any movie that addresses Israel and its fraught history is a particularly tough topic in this political climate and during the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. Nonetheless, this is a major turning point in Bryan Singer’s career, determining whether he can recover from his problematic past.
