Samara Weaving’s 61% Rated Sleeper Thriller Is A Streaming Hit

Samara Weaving is an accomplished Australian actress who first attracted attention on television in her home country. She debuted in Out of the Blue (2008), and later caught the eye of critics in the long-running soap opera Home and Away from 2009 to 2013. Weaving went on to appear in Ash vs Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ season 1 in 2015, marking her first horror project.

Her breakthrough year came in 2017 when she starred in the horror movies Mayhem and The Babysitter, and was a part of the ensemble cast of the Oscar-winning film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. In 2019, she solidified herself as a scream queen and leading lady in Radio Silence’s horror-comedy Ready or Not.

She has since starred in the nostalgic sci-fi comedy Bill & Ted Face the Music and reprised her role in the sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen in 2020. More recently, she has starred in Radio Silence’s slasher Scream VI (2023) and the action-horror film Azrael (2024). Now, Weaving’s new thriller has become a surprise streaming success.

Borderline Becomes A Streaming Hit

Borderline has become a streaming hit. Written and directed by Jimmy Warden in his directorial debut, who was one of the co-writers behind The Babysitter: Killer Queen, the new thriller stars Samara Weaving as a pop star whose home is broken into by an obsessed fan convinced they’re destined to marry and who coerces her into playing along with his fantasy.

In addition to Weaving in the lead role, the cast also includes Ray Nicholson, the son of Jack Nicholson, who previously starred in the horror sequel Smile 2. Euphoria‘s Eric Dane, Jimmie Fails (The Last Black Man in San Francisco), Alba Baptista (Warrior Nun), and Patrick Cox also star.

Shortly after its release, Borderline ranks fifth on Peacock’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, August 27. It ranks below Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Kung Fu Panda 4, Bring It On, and above M3GAN, Kung Fu Panda 2, Cluess, Ryan Reynolds’ R.I.P.D., and Mean Girls (2024).

Our Take On Borderline’s Streaming Success

Borderline was released in theaters on March 14 and flew under the radar, making only $284,704 at the box office before heading to streaming. Despite little exposure, it’s found unexpected life on Peacock, where the playful romp has struck a chord with audiences.

Based on Borderline‘s reviews, audiences seem to be enjoying the unapologetically unhinged energy of the performances, particularly Samara Weaving and Ray Nicholson. On streaming, where discovery thrives on curiosity, Borderline has evolved into an unlikely hit.
