Taylor Sheridan Is The Perfect Choice To Bring Sylvester Stallone’s Wild Rambo 6 Idea To Life

Sylvester Stallone once pitched a Rambo 6 concept that took the тιтular ex-soldier to an Indian Reservation, and Taylor Sheridan would be the perfect writer to bring that idea to life. The ending of Rambo: Last Blood saw the badly wounded Rambo mount his horse and ride away from his farm, after battling a Mexican cartel.

The sequel left Rambo’s fate ambiguous, and Stallone himself confessed in the Netflix doc Sly that his original plan was for the character to succumb to his wounds in the final scene. He changed his mind in the editing bay, leaving the door open slightly for more Rambo movies.

Last Blood was a critical and commercial disappointment though, and Stallone seemingly has little interest in one last Rambo misadventure. While speaking with JoBlo in 2019, Stallone did mull a story idea for a potential sixth film that would explore Rambo’s Native American roots.

Given the mᴀssacre he committed on his family farm, it’s reasonable to ᴀssume the authorities would be hunting Rambo down. Given his injuries and with the police being on his tail, Stallone pitched JoBlo that there would only be one place Rambo could hide and treat his wounds.

The only place he could actually go where he could survive would be an Indian reservation. That’s the only place, because (the police) can’t come on, it’s Federal. That’s the only place he could go and heal, other than that he’s done.

It’s doubtful Stallone ever had a treatment or script for this idea, and was likely just a notion he was mulling over. It would be an interesting final chapter, especially as the series has never explored Rambo’s Native American heritage outside the second film, which mentions his German and Native American heritage.

Stallone’s biggest hit in recent years is Tulsa King, the Taylor Sheridan-created crime drama. Sheridan has become an industry powerhouse and is the man behind hits like the Yellowstone franchise, Lioness and the acclaimed thriller Wind River.

The latter took place inside a reservation, and much of Sheridan’s work has explored Native American stories and themes. Rambo: Last Blood suffered from perhaps the weakest screenplay of the series, to the point where it barely understood who Rambo was a character.

Sheridan could bring both the humanity and the grit back to the series. He practically handed Stallone his biggest success story of the last decade, and as somebody who has tackled Native American stories with nuance and tact, Sheridan is the ideal writer to take on Rambo’s last chapter.

Will Rambo 6 Actually Happen?

Of course, Sheridan collaborating with Stallone on Rambo 6 is, at best, a pipedream. Given his busy schedule working on his own original shows, Sheridan may not have much interest in a Rambo sequel, especially given the poor reception Last Blood received.

There’s also the fact that Stallone himself claims to be done with the role. Last Blood was intended to live up to its тιтle, being the character’s final outing. There was also the announcement of a Rambo prequel in August 2025, with Sisi’s Jalmari Helander directing and Noah Centineo set to star.

All of which suggests that no, Rambo 6 probably won’t happen. That said, Stallone has ruled himself out of multiple Rocky and Rambo sequels before, only to come back, so it shouldn’t be ruled out just yet.
