Mortal Kombat 2 Won’t Feel The Same If This Fighter Doesn’t Get Introduced

Mortal Kombat II looks like it could be the best movie yet in the franchise, but it’s essential that it introduces a major character from the video games. Mortal Kombat is one of the most popular fighting game series of all time, and it features plenty of amazing characters. Thankfully, a lot of the standout fighters from the games will join the movie franchise as new characters in Mortal Kombat II.

Fans can’t wait to see characters like Kitana, Jade, Baraka, Shao Kahn, and, of course, Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II. These characters and many more will compete in a high-stakes tournament between Earthrealm and Outworld, which is the main aspect of the sequel that fans can’t wait to see after the somewhat disappointing first movie.

However, amidst the chaos of the tournament, the trailer for Mortal Kombat II confirms that one major storyline from the first movie will be continued in the sequel. Hanzo Hasashi and Bi-Han, who will be referred to as Noob Saibot in the sequel, can be seen fighting in the trailer.

This confirms that their rivalry will continue, but since Bi-Han is now Noob Saibot, a new Sub-Zero needs to be introduced.

Bi-Han Will Return In Mortal Kombat 2… But Not As Sub-Zero

Since Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion and Bi-Han/Sub-Zero are arguably the two most popular Mortal Kombat characters, it made sense that the first movie heavily focused on their rivalry. At the beginning of the first film, which was released in 2021, Bi-Han kills Hanzo and his family. However, instead of remaining ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, Hanzo is brought down to the Netherrealm and given special powers.

This allows him to return at the end to finally get revenge against Bi-Han, as Scorpion teams up with Cole Young to kill Sub-Zero. However, in classic Mortal Kombat fashion, Bi-Han also won’t remain ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Following the story of the video games, Bi-Han will be revived by Quan Chi and return as the wraith ninja Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat II.

Since Bi-Han was one of the best characters in the first film, and a far better villain than Shang Tsung, it’s incredibly exciting that he is returning in the sequel. However, he will no longer go by the name Sub-Zero. In fact, since he is technically unᴅᴇᴀᴅ, Bi-Han will be a drastically different character.

Most likely, Noob Saibot will do Quan Chi’s bidding in Mortal Kombat II. This means that he will likely be even more ruthless than Sub-Zero was. Noob Saibot will undoubtedly be a great villain, and it’s great that the sequel is continuing the feud between Hanzo and Bi-Han, but it won’t necessarily feel like the classic Scorpion and Sub-Zero rivalry.

Scorpion and Noob Saibot’s fight in Mortal Kombat II is heavily featured in the trailer. This definitely looks like it could be one of the best fights in the movie, but it’s not the same as watching the iconic yellow and blue ninjas face against each other. Therefore, since Bi-Han is no longer Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat II, the sequel needs to introduce a new version of the character.

Mortal Kombat 2 Should Introduce Kuai Liang As The New Sub-Zero

In the Mortal Kombat video games, Kuai Liang, Bi-Han’s younger brother, becomes the new Sub-Zero after his death. Just like Bi-Han, Kuai Liang is a Lin Kuei ninja, and actually originally goes by the name Tundra. However, after learning that Scorpion killed his brother, Kuai Liang joins the Mortal Kombat tournament as a new Sub-Zero in the second game to seek revenge.

Unlike Bi-Han, who is typically portrayed as a villain, Kuai Liang is actually a heroic character in the video games. He is not afraid to defy villains like Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, who his brother served. He actually fights alongside Earthrealm’s champions in many of the games, so he would be a great addition to their team in Mortal Kombat II.

However, despite his heroic tendencies, he still has a vendetta against Scorpion. Not including Kuai Liang would be a missed opportunity, especially since it would be a shame if there’s not a proper Scorpion vs Sub-Zero fight in the sequel. Additionally, having Kuai Liang encounter his unᴅᴇᴀᴅ brother would also make for a fascinating scene.

Scorpion and Sub-Zero have actually appeared in every single live-action Mortal Kombat movie, effectively making the main players of the cinematic franchise. At this point in time, there is no indication that Kuai Liang will appear as Sub-Zero in the sequel, but hopefully Mortal Kombat II’s creative team have just done a good job at keeping his inclusion a secret.

Since Bi-Han is technically no longer Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat II would be breaking a franchise trend if Kuai Liang is not introduced. Therefore, in a way, Mortal Kombat II would not feel like a proper MK movie if the new Sub-Zero is not included. Though future installments could rectify this, it would be more exciting if the sequel set up that thread immediately.
