Brad Pitt’s 82% RT Hit Dethrones Superman On Streaming Following Digital Release

Brad Pitt’s new sports movie is now beating Superman (2025) on VOD following its digital release. With a career that spans a variety of genres, Pitt has been one of Hollywood’s most well-known and successful leading men. Now 61, he shows no sign of slowing down.

Over the course of his decades-long career, Pitt has secured six Oscar nominations and two wins, the most recent of which was for his role as Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). In addition to remaining a consistent presence at awards shows, the actor also isn’t afraid to let loose with more commercial popcorn flicks.

Pitt has starred in blockbuster movies like Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005), World War Z (2013), Fury (2014), The Lost City (2022), and Bullet Train (2022). His characters are often charismatic and effortlessly cool, qualities that clearly appeal to audiences.

Pitt most recently unleashed his charm in a big-budget blockbuster from Apple Studios, which excelled in theaters and is now available to rent and purchase on VOD. Despite only just landing on digital platforms, the film is already proving popular.

F1: The Movie Beats Superman On VOD

After finding success in theaters, F1: The Movie is now dominating the latest DCU release on digital. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the racing blockbuster stars Pitt as F1 driver Sonny Hayes, who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver on a struggling team.

The film’s cast includes Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, and Kerry Condon, among others, and the F1: The Movie reviews were positive upon the film’s release in late June. The film proved particularly popular in IMAX, a format where Kosinski’s previous movie, Top Gun: Maverick (2022), also excelled.

Following its VOD release on August 22, F1: The Movie is currently the number one movie on the iTunes Store, per iTopChart. This places the Apple movie ahead of previous champion Superman, which is now in third place behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025).

What This Means For F1: The Movie

F1: The Movie was seen as something of a gamble for Apple before its release. The studio doesn’t have a strong track record when it comes to big-budget theatrical bets, with movies like Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), Napoleon (2023), Fly Me to the Moon (2024), and Argylle (2024) all falling flat commercially.

Though the above films were not commercially successful, Killers of the Flower Moon was critically acclaimed.

F1: The Movie has bucked this trend, having now grossed just under $600 million worldwide on a budget estimated to be in the ballpark of $250 million. This respectable box office performance accompanies a glowing 97% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The fact that the Pitt movie is now also proving popular on VOD suggests the star could end up reteaming with Kosinski for a sequel. It remains to be seen whether a follow-up to F1: The Movie ever gets made, but Pitt evidently remains a bankable movie star.
