Dwayne Johnson is largely known as a typecast actor who plays the same character in every film. A physically imposing man with a smoldering intensity who is capable of the most unbelievable feats of strength without showing any sign of struggle, who never lose a fight, and who regularly saves everyone in the climax of the movie.
This is true even of the sequel movies where Dwayne Johnson has joined a franchise midway. He often replaces the original hero, or becomes as capable and relevant as the main hero. While The Mummy Returns and Fast Five are notable exceptions, Dwayne Johnson is almost never a villain and most often emerges victorious.
Dwayne Johnson has joined many movie franchises over the years, and his most memorable characters are from these franchises. However, some of his standalone films have also won over fans. Most of Dwayne Johnson’s live-action work has been critically panned, but a notable exception is a 2019 movie where he has a minor role.
Fighting With My Family Is Dwayne Johnson’s Best Live Action Film On Rotten Tomatoes
The Rock’s live-action films often struggle to get high approval ratings from critics, who don’t find much substance in the entertaining blockbusters the wrestler-turned-actor regularly helms today. As one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, it is a shame that only a few of his live-action films have broken past the 60% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, Fighting With My Family, the biopic of the youngest female WWE champion, Paige, aka Saraya Bevis. The film stars Florence Pugh as Paige and Jack Lowden as her brother, both of whom entered WWE around the same time. It tracks her rise to fame, while following his struggle grappling with his failure to succeed as much as his sister.
With great performances from Florence Pugh, Lena Headey, and Vince Vaughn (the latter two playing Paige and her brother’s parents), the film is a great biopic that often deviates from the usual formula. The Rock appears in a few scenes as himself from his wrestling days, and Fighting With The Family remains his hightes-rated live-action movie.
Moana Is Dwayne Johnson’s Highest Rated Animated Movie
The Dwayne Johnson movie, which has the highest approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, features him in a much bigger role as the supporting voice-actor for the demigod Maui in Disney’s Moana. It’s one of four animated feature films he’s appeared in, and as a bona fide Disney classic, it’s possibly the best movie in his filmography.
Moana follows the тιтular character (Auli’i Carvalho) on her journey to find a solution to the blight that has hit her island. She sails off, against her father’s orders, to find a relic and return it to its rightful owner, Goddess Te Fiti. On her way, she encounters the demigod Maui, who had stolen the relic, and he joins her.
With songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Moana is bubbling with energy from the first frame to the final one. Sung enthusiastically by Dwayne Johnson, the song You’re Welcome is still one of the most popular Disney movie tracks today. Maui’s full-of-himself demeanor with his ever-growing sense of responsibility during his character arc is beautifully brought to life by Dwayne Johnson’s voice.
