James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash just revealed that the film will see an incredible rematch between two unexpected characters. While Avatar 3 will see Jack once again fighting against Quaritch, and even introduces a new nemesis for Neytiri in Varang, there will be a great many more conflicts between beloved characters in this exciting story.
The box office for Avatar has been so strong, and there is no reason to believe that the upcoming chapter will not also be a big hit when it is released in December. In addition to the best visuals seen on the big screen, Avatar explores relatable themes about belonging and family that resonate strongly, especially in international territories.
The new film will have much to do. Exploring Varang and the Ash clans, revealing more about Kiri’s connection to Eywa, and seeing the Sully family move forward with the Metkayina tribe after the stunning loss of Neteyam, will be only a few of the details that the new film must to confront. In addition, a bitter rivalry will return.
Payakan vs. Mick Scoresby Is Avatar 3’s Biggest Rematch
The biggest rematch in Avatar 3 will occur between Mick Scoresby and the Tulkun, Payakan. In the ending of Avatar: The Way of Water, Scoresby’s whaling ship was attacked by the rogue Tulkun. In this violent scene, Scoresby was tangled in coil, and a vicious sH๏τ saw his arm being ripped off, with his body being thrown into the air.
The scene is violent and was shown at a distance. Many viewers speculated that Scoresby was ᴅᴇᴀᴅ from this attack, but a deleted scene from the film revealed that he actually survived. With new details shared about Scoresby’s return in Fire and Ash, it seems that the villain is back for revenge.
Speaking with Empire, Scoresby actor Brendan Cowell revealed that his character has fostered a deep bitterness following these events. He explained how this plays into Scoresby’s motivations: “He lost his last fight, he knows there’s this generational, ancestral hatred towards him, and so this time it’s personal.”
Payakan is one of the best characters in The Way of Water, and it is upsetting to know that the rogue Tulkun will be pursued by a nemesis of his own. Payakan has suffered enough; he was outcast by his own kind and pushed away from the Metkayina. Fortunately, his friendship with Lo’ak has helped him to move forward.
The thought of Scoresby hunting down Payakan in Avatar: Fire and Ash is terrifying, but it could make for some compelling scenes in the new film. However this is handled, there is hope that Payakan will be able to survive. Hopefully, Scoresby does not allow his bitterness and rage to consume him entirely.
