The second superhero team in the DC Universe has officially been unveiled in Peacemaker season 2. Peacemaker season 2’s story will be vital to the wider universe, as James Gunn himself has insisted. The ending of Superman marked DC Studios’ new storytelling efforts, allowing Peacemaker to pick up the reins.

The cast of Peacemaker season 2 is largely the same as season 1, only this time with added DCU stars like Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced. This canonizes the Justice Gang to the story of Peacemaker, the first true DCU superhero team. However, via a big storyline in Peacemaker season 2, the second DCU team has been officially confirmed.

Peacemaker Season 2 Introduces The Top Trio

The predominant storyline in Peacemaker season 2 surrounds the тιтular character’s exploration of an alternate universe. In season 1, Peacemaker used his father’s interdimensional portal as an armory, which included doors that led to other dimensions. Peacemaker season 2 features the character going through one of these doors, leading to a universe in which his father and brother are still alive.

In this universe, Peacemaker’s father is more benevolent, and he, Chris, and Keith make up a superhero team known as the Top Trio. Chris sees several news articles depicting the Top Trio’s various heroic feats, including defeating the Rainbow Creature and Ultra-Humanite, the latter of which resulted in Gotham being saved.

The Top Trio Is The Second Official DCU Superhero Team

As already alluded to, the Top Trio is the second official DCU superhero team. It remains to be seen just how much Peacemaker season 2 will explore the Top Trio, but the trailers seem to indicate that the alternate dimension will be vital going forward. With that in mind, it seems fitting for the Top Trio to be important enough as the DCU’s second major team.

The first is Superman‘s Justice Gang. This team consists of Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and, as of Superman‘s ending, Metamorpho. The Justice Gang also appears in Peacemaker season 2 in the search for more team members, which the тιтular hero unsuccessfully tries out for.

A few other teams have been included in the DCU, such as Task Force X from The Suicide Squad and Task Force M from Creature Commandos. However, the major difference with these teams is that they were covert operations and not revered by the wider DCU as a true hero team.

The same cannot be said for the Justice Gang or the Top Trio. The former is beloved in the mainline DCU dimension, with the latter being revered in the DCU’s alternate dimension, introduced in Peacemaker season 2, solidifying the DC Universe’s first two major teams.
