Alexandra Daddario Suits Up As Zatanna For James Gunn’s DCU In New DC Art

Alexandra Daddario becomes the new live-action Zatanna in exciting DC art. While there was no version of the magic character in the DCEU movie franchise, that could be corrected for James Gunn’s new DC Universe. After all, there is already one confirmed DCU movie that would be perfect for Zatanna to make her debut. That project is James Mangold’s Swamp Thing.

In the past, DC tried to get the Justice League Dark off the ground. With multiple heroes appearing in every DCU project so far, the same could be true for Swamp Thing. Supernatural characters like Zatanna and John Constantine would be a perfect fit for the film. As the fan-favorite pick for Zatanna for years, Daddario could finally play her.

On DeviantArt, user mchadd1987 imagines what Alexandra Daddario could look like as Zatanna in the new DC Universe.

The DC fan art sees Daddario wearing Zatanna’s classic costume, which includes a top hat, black tuxedo jacket, a bow tie, and more, completed by a wand. Daddario’s Zatanna looks like she stepped right out of the comics, making a case for her casting in future DC movies.

Given how the DC art is not official, it does not directly impact Alexandra Daddario’s chances of getting cast as Zatanna in the new DC Universe. That said, the fan art showcases how the actress looks the part. That is something that has been noted time and again, as Daddario has been frequently fancast as major DC heroes over the years.

Zatanna and Wonder Woman are at the top of that list when it comes to Daddario possibly joining DC. While the actress has not directly spoken about her chances of playing Zatanna, Daddario is open to superhero roles, or at least was. In a 2019 interview with ComicBook.com, Daddario talked about comic book roles, saying, “I would love to be part of any of those films.”

However, the actress did not have a specific role in mind, as Daddario believes she will cross that bridge when she has to, meaning a role is offered or presented to her. With her recent lead role in Mayfair Witches, playing Zatanna would come easily to Daddario. The actress excels in the supernatural genre, with the AMC series renewed for season 3.

In Mayfair Witches, Alexandra Daddario plays Rowan Fielding, who possesses incredible mystical powers that come from different generations of witches. Daddario has the necessary skills to make sure that Zatanna, DC’s most famous female magic user, shines in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

The actress also has experience in major franchises. Alexandra Daddario played Annabeth Chase in two Percy Jackson movies, also voicing Lois Lane in multiple animated films set in DC’s Tomorrowverse franchise. As such, the 39-year-old actress would make for the perfect Zatanna in the DCU, unless the fan campaign for her to play Wonder Woman works out instead.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
