Released in 2024, The Bikeriders, written and directed by Jeff Nichols, stars Austin Butler as Benny, a biker in Tom Hardy’s motorcycle club, the Vandals. Featuring Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, and Norman Reedus, the movie was inspired by a true story.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Butler recalled temporarily losing his vision while he was flying to film The Bikeriders. The star shared that he had a terrible migraine when his plane landed and thought he was dying, but his sight slowly came back. He headed down to the set to work, concluding it was due to sleep deprivation. Check out his comment below:

It felt like the life WAS BEING SUCKED from my body. I suddenly felt a EUPHORIC SENSATION, and I actually genuinely thought I WAS DYING.

Butler has faced several such physical challenges and scares. After filming for Elvis wrapped in 2021, the actor was hospitalized for a week due to severe abdominal pain. Additionally, from one film to another, he has gone through different physical transformations. For Elvis, he gained 35 pounds. For Dune: Part Two, he trained with a former Navy SEAL.

For Caught Stealing, he ate a lot of pizza and drank beer to avoid looking too lean. Butler admitted in the same interview that he sometimes skipped meals during the awards season for Elvis. Having put his body through all this, it started to take a toll on his health.

During the press tour for Dune: Part Two, the star experienced sharp pain in his foot for eight months before the doctor removed a piece of glᴀss, which was the root of the problem. Ultimately, the incident during the making of The Bikeriders was a sign of how far he had pushed his body. In retrospect, the star has learned to better take care of himself.
