Avengers: Doomsday Filming Challenges Addressed By Returning Marvel Actor

New Avengers: Doomsday filming challenges get addressed by one of the returning Marvel stars. As Phase 6 has just kicked off in 2025, there are only a handful of MCU movies and TV shows left for The Multiverse Saga, as Marvel Studios is building towards its big finale.

Currently, the Avengers: Doomsday cast is busy shooting the highly anticipated team-up movie, making it the first Avengers film since 2019’s Endgame. One of the most exciting aspects of the Phase 6 installment is the return of several X-Men actors from Fox’s Marvel era, bringing the mutants together with the MCU heroes.

With Alan Cumming as one of the X-Men stars returning for Avengers: Doomsday, the Nightcrawler actor recently spoke with GoldDerby, where he shared more about his filming process. Cumming, who first played Nightcrawler in X2, shared that he has mostly been filming “in isolation,” as he shared the following:

I did the entire film in isolation. Lots of green screen, face replacement. They even gave characters fake names. I don’t know who I was acting with half the time. [laughs] I broke the internet by mentioning something once, but honestly, I might have got it wrong.

Other X-Men stars who are also lined up to appear in the movie include Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and James Marsden’s Cyclops. According to Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, the entire cast for the Phase 6 entry has not been fully revealed yet.

Based on Cumming’s comments, it would appear that he may have finished all of his Avengers: Doomsday scenes as Nightcrawler, although there is still the possibility that he may return to shoot additional scenes. Given how the script for this movie is continuing to be a work in progress, despite filming being underway, anything is possible.

While it’s not unusual for actors in heavy blockbuster movies to be filming by themselves, especially if it involves visual or CGI elements, it’s still surprising that Cumming didn’t shoot at least one scene with his co-stars. However, it’s also possible Cumming is keeping it vague to avoid accidentally spoiling something major from the MCU film.

After hearing Cumming’s filming comments, it definitely raises a lot of questions about who Nightcrawler is supposedly sharing scenes with in the film, given that they have already announced a lot of MCU actors for the movie. But at the very least, Nightcrawler is bound to have at least a scene or two with Avengers: Doomsday’s Doctor Doom.

If Cumming’s Nightcrawler also ends up being part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast, time will tell if the isolated filming experience will be repeated or if he may actually work on set with other actors. But for now, as Avengers: Doomsday continues with principal pH๏τography, the MCU audience will have to wait and see what is in store for Nightcrawler.
