Audiences’ most-anticipated horror movies of the next two months have been revealed. 2025 horror movies have already found a great deal of commercial success, including the sequels 28 Years Later and Final Destination Bloodlines, which are the No. 13 and No. 18 highest-grossing movies worldwide at the time of writing.
Other тιтles that have found box office success in 2025 include Sinners, The Monkey, and Until Dawn. Most recently, Weapons has zoomed past the $150 million milestone worldwide before the end of the second full week of its theatrical run.
Fandango has now shared the results of their survey of more than 2,000 ticketbuyers, revealing the most anticipated horror movies set to debut between September 1 and October 31 in 2025. No. 1 on the list is the franchise-concluding The Conjuring: Last Rites, which features the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren.
It is followed by the Blumhouse sequel The Black Phone 2 at No. 2, the dystopian Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk at No. 3, the Jordan Peele-produced sports horror film Him, and the Renny Harlin home invasion sequel The Strangers: Chapter 2.
What This Means For 2025’s Upcoming Horror Movies
The time between September 1 and October 31 is a rich period for horror movies, because many audience members seek out scary theatrical releases during the lead-up to Halloween, including ticketbuyers who otherwise don’t go see movies in the genre. Because of this, there are usually a great number of horror movies set to debut in September and October yearly.
While horror movies debut year-round, there tends to be a lull in early November, in the immediate wake of Halloween.
2025 is no different, as there are many more horror and supernatural thriller тιтles coming to theaters during those months than just the five that are on the list, including Rabbit Trap, Traumatika, Killing Faith, Bone Lake, Good Boy, Shelby Oaks, and The Drowned.
This would seem to prove that the Fandango survey list genuinely reflects five heavily anticipated movies rather than just ranking a group of тιтles. If that is indeed the case, the upcoming Conjuring: Last Rites could potentially be a major hit at the box office, continuing the sprawling horror franchise’s habit of having installments gross more than $200 million worldwide.

The Fandango poll also underscores the potential for original horror to continue thriving in 2025. The year has already seen some enormous original horror hits in the form of Zach Cregger’s Weapons and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, the latter of which is the highest-grossing horror movie of the year to date, having earned $365.9 million against its reported $100 million budget.
However, original тιтles in the horror genre could get an additional boost during the Halloween season if these survey results presage Him becoming a hit. Additionally, while The Long Walk is a King adaptation, it does not belong to a pre-existing film franchise, so the anticipation for the movie is still a good sign for original horror in general.
