Even though Johnny Cage is the protagonist of Mortal Kombat II, he will not be the most important character. The trailer for Mortal Kombat II introduces Karl Urban’s Cage and quickly sees him take center stage as Earthrealm’s champions prepare to fight against Outworld in the tournament. If they lose, Outworld’s forces will be able to invade Earthrealm.
This obviously isn’t good, especially since Earthrealm will be outnumbered in the tournament. This is thanks to the various new characters that will appear in Mortal Kombat II, such as Baraka, Sindel, and, of course, Shao Kahn, the emperor of Outworld. These characters and many others will do whatever it takes to make sure Outworld wins the tournament in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II.
Based on the trailer, it seems likely that Johnny Cage will be the one to fight Shao Kahn at the end of the long-awaited sequel. It will be a thrilling fight to watch, but there’s a strong chance that Cage won’t be the main reason Earthrealm wins in the film. Instead, I predict Kitana will be the most important character.
Kitana Will Be More Important Than Johnny Cage In Mortal Kombat 2
Without a doubt, Johnny Cage is the character that is most prominently featured in the Mortal Kombat II trailer. However, it also confirms that Kitana will play a major role in the sequel. The fan-wielding Edenian princess can be seen fighting characters like Cage, Jade, and most interestingly, Shao Kahn.
A brief sH๏τ near the end of the trailer shows Kitana attacking Shao Kahn with her fans. This seems to confirm that she will betray the Outworld ruler in Mortal Kombat II, just like she does in the video games. There, Kitana betrays Shao Kahn and decides to fight for Earthrealm because he killed her father, King Jerrod, after invading the realm of Edenia.
The trailer for Mortal Kombat II confirms that Shao Kahn will indeed invade Edenia and kill King Jerrod in the movie as well. While Kitana’s mother, Queen Sindel, will likely remain loyal to Shao Kahn and ᴀssume a more villainous role, Kitana is poised to take a very different path.
Kitana’s betrayal will take Shao Kahn by surprise. In the games, the Outworld emperor rules with fear and ᴀssumes that Kitana and other characters will be too scared to betray him. This will likely be the case in the movie franchise as well, which means he could potentially be weakened by Kitana heading into the final fight of the tournament.
It would be shocking if Kitana is the one who defeats Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat II, but she will at least do enough damage to ensure that Earthrealm’s champion has a chance in the climactic battle. Since she will likely be the one to weaken Shao Kahn and set up Earthrealm’s victory, Kitana will be the most important character in Mortal Kombat II.
