Kirsten Dunst & Sofia Coppola Reuniting For Their Fifth Movie With Filming Details Revealed

Longtime collaborators Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola are reportedly teaming up for another movie soon. The pair’s most famous projects are 2006’s Marie Antoinette and 1999’s The Virgin Suicides, though their most recent ones are 2013’s The Bling Ring and 2017’s The Beguiled.

Without Dunst, Coppola received great acclaim for Lost in Translation, starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Coppola won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and was nominated for Best Director and Best Picture for this project. Dunst, meanwhile, is also known for starring in Spider-Man, Interview with the Vampire, Little Women, and, more recently, Melancholia.

Dunst just gave an interview with Town & Country Magazine, during which she mentioned that she has read the script for Coppola’s next project. Coppola is coming from the critically acclaimed drama Priscilla, an adaptation of Priscilla Presley’s memoir. Referring to the interview with Dunst, journalist Mickey Rapkin said:

Dunst has a few projects she’s set to star in (including a mermaid story with Anora’s Mikey Madison), and she tells me she has just read the script for Coppola’s next film, which they’ll make together next year.

The Beguiled, while a compelling movie, feels like it shouldn’t be Dunst and Coppola’s final collaboration, though both their careers may go on for decades longer. In general, it can be argued that Coppola’s work is underappreciated, as Marie Antoinette received mixed reviews and Priscilla was edged out of the Oscars. Her other movies, besides Lost in Translation, saw a similar reception.

It’s good news that Coppola is at work on what is sure to be another thoughtful, likely somewhat morbidly ethereal picture, and it could be a chance for her and Dunst to create their collaborative magnum opus. Dunst and Coppola’s longstanding professional relationship means that they will probably find a way to make sure filming doesn’t clash with Reptilia, the mermaid movie with Mikey Madison.

Our Take On Kirsten Dunst & Sofia Coppola’s Next Movie

Unfortunately, Dunst’s comment covers everything we know about the movie. Coppola has the documentary Marc by Sofia coming out next month, as well as Fairyland (which she produced, not directed) in October. The filmmaker is possibly working out the details of this upcoming production behind closed doors, and we will hear more soon.

But Sofia Coppola and Kirsten Dunst‘s unconventional past movies promise that the next will be one to watch out for. From approaching Marie Antoinette’s life through the lens of a teenager’s party lifestyle to turning a biopic into a glitzy caper story, the duo has left their mark on Hollywood and will do so again.
