Luca Guadagnino‘s next movie, тιтled Artificial, is going to have a mᴀssive cast, and five more stars have just joined the ranks. The director is known for projects including Challengers and Call Me by Your Name, and will release the university-set drama After the Hunt this fall, starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield.
Artificial is described as a comedy-drama written by Simon Rich, and was previously confirmed to star Garfield, Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, Ike Barinholtz, Cooper Koch, Billie Lourd, and Zosia Mamet. Chris O’Dowd’s casting in Artificial was the most recent news before now.
Artificial will reportedly depict the events surrounding CEO Sam Altman being fired and rehired from OpenAI within days in 2023. Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Will Angus Thaddea Graham Nicholas Hamilton, Angus Imrie, and Will Price have also now joined Artificial‘s cast.
What This Casting News Means For Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial
At this point, one would ᴀssume that we are talking about who will be playing supporting characters in Artificial, as more established Hollywood stars have already been announced and are presumably taking on the most prominent roles. However, if this is to be a fully-fledged workplace drama about the AI industry, it should be filled with many compelling office employees.
And this batch of actors is also bringing experience to Artificial that could turn a small role into something indispensable. Of particular note is Will Price, who is returning to collaborate with Guadagnino after featuring in After the Hunt, suggesting that the director wants to give the actor more screentime.
Angus Imrie is known for playing a younger Prince Edward in a few episodes of The Crown, as well as Agent Charlie in Mickey 17, meaning he has both straightforward drama and more comedic drama experience. Horror fans will also be excited to see It‘s Nicholas Hamilton prove himself in a new genre.
Our Take On Artificial’s New Cast Members
These casting choices for Artificial suggest that the director and producers are seriously contemplating who will play every character, which is vital if Guadagnino wants to maintain the overall quality of his filmography. This new AI-driven picture could also be a major leap forward in the career of any of these up-and-coming stars.
It also means that I will be on the lookout for Price when I go to see After the Hunt (the character currently being unnamed). It is very exciting to see Luca Guadagnino working with new actors like Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri, and in Garfield’s case, bringing him back for Artificial. However, one of these relatively unknown actors may be a new major collaborator.
