After The Naked Gun, it’s even more clear that one actor needs to star in his own comedy movie. Without a doubt, the legacy sequel is one of the funniest movies of the year. Ever since its release on August 1, reviews for The Naked Gun have been amazing, with Screen Rant‘s own Zach Moser giving it a score of 8 out of 10 stars.
The success of the sequel is a huge accomplishment, especially since most of the actors in The Naked Gun aren’t known to be comedic performers. Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson have barely done any comedies throughout their careers, but their exceptional performances lead to plenty of hilarious moments in The Naked Gun.
In addition to Neeson and Anderson, who lead the cast, there are also several cameos in The Naked Gun. In my opinion, Dave Bautista surprisingly appearing at the end of the movie makes for the best cameo in the entire movie. Even though he only has a small role, it further proves that Bautista needs his own comedy movie.
Dave Bautista Deserves His Own True Comedy After The Naked Gun
At the end of The Naked Gun, Frank Drebin Jr. and Richard Cane, the movie’s villain, have an argument in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. During this scene, in typical villain fashion, Cane is trying to explain why he believes his actions are justified. However, when the movie cuts away from him and to where Frank should be, Bautista is suddenly there instead.
Bautista seemingly plays himself and takes over for Frank during this argument while the Police Squad detective takes a bathroom break. This shocking moment is hilarious, and gets even better when Frank steps out of the porta potty, allowing Bautista to apologize for messing up some of his lines.
With only mere moments onscreen, he leaves an impact on the film. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the wrestler-turned-actor has proven how funny he can be in several of his movies. Most notably, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Glᴀss Onion: A Knives Out Mystery highlight Bautista’s comedic chops.
In addition to these films, The Naked Gun proves that Bautista deserves to star in a proper comedy. The closest he has come to this is My Spy and its sequel, My Spy: The Eternal City. However, these movies are considered action comedies. In fact, most of Bautista’s comedic roles have included elements of action as well, like Stuber.
Therefore, it would be a fun change if one of Bautista’s upcoming movies was a more traditional comedy film that didn’t include any action elements. This would allow the actor to properly showcase his comedic talents, which he briefly gets to do in The Naked Gun, and could open up many doors for his career.
