Nobody 2 Is Never Beating The John Wick Comparisons Now

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Nobody 2!The Nobody franchise is often compared to John Wick, and after these major reveals in Nobody 2, that’s never going to stop. John Wick is easily the most influential action franchise of the 2010s, and while a lot of modern movies lift from the Keanu Reeves series, Nobody is especially well-known for doing this.

The main reason that Nobody is ᴀssociated with John Wick has to do with its creation. The Bob Odenkirk series is produced by David Leitch, the original director and co-creator of the John Wick franchise. Although Nobody and John Wick are not related in any official capacity, this connection has led to a lot of comparisons, as well as outcry for a crossover.

The first film attempted to differentiate itself from Leitch’s other action franchise by having a more grounded tone and a protagonist with a military backstory rather than that of an ᴀssᴀssin. Nobody 2, however, leans into some of these John Wick comparisons, featuring two story beats that are direct copies of the Reeves character.

Odenkirk’s Hutch Mansell goes through some big developments, and two of them are direct copies of John Wick’s own story beats. Firstly, Hutch loses a finger. During the fight on the duck boat, Hutch has his pinky cut off by one of the ᴀssailants, leaving him down one digit.

Losing a finger is also something that Wick has famously gone through, though in his third film. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum sees Wick go to the High Table to atone for his crimes. While there, he is forced to cut off his ring finger, something that stuck around through the rest of the third film as well as John Wick: Chapter 4.

The second big reveal has to do with Hutch’s animal sidekick. While at the water park, Hutch discovers that one of the attractions features an encounter with a wild wolf. During the Nobody 2 ending, Hutch enlists his help. After beating the villain’s criminal organization, the Mansells adopt the wolf, to the point where he’s interrogated alongside Hutch and Becca.

Although Wick is famously motivated by the death of his dog, this isn’t the only canine that is featured in his franchise. At the end of the first film, Wick adopts a black bulldog, one that sticks with him throughout the series. On top of that, other fighting dog sidekicks are seen in the series, such as the pets of Sofia Al-Azwar and Mr. Nobody.

While there are still a lot of differences between Nobody and John Wick, these parallels are fun callbacks that fans of both franchises may notice. Nobody 2 wears its inspirations on its sleeve, which is why it is so much fun for the sequel to bring Hutch even closer to Wick.
