Jason Statham’s $760 Million Masterpiece Is Taking Over Netflix

Jason Statham‘s name is nearly synonymous with action movies and the tough, gritty, and often violent characters he plays within them. Widely regarded as a driving force behind the revival of action cinema in the 2000s and 2010s, Statham established himself as one of Hollywood’s most reliable stars. By 2017, his films had collectively grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide.

His cinematic breakthrough came under the direction of Guy Ritchie, who cast him in the stylish British crime dramas Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000). These films became commercial successes and gave Statham a platform that propelled him toward international recognition. Soon after, he anchored the Transporter trilogy (2002–2008), a role that firmly positioned him as an enduring action icon.

Building on this foundation, Statham continued to headline high-octane productions, including Crank (2006), The Bank Job (2008), The Mechanic (2011), and The Meg (2018). His career also thrived in ensemble blockbusters, most notably The Expendables series (2010–2023) and the Fast & Furious franchise, including the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw (2019). Together, these roles cemented his place as one of modern cinema’s quintessential action stars.

Hobbs & Shaw Is Taking Over Netflix

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is taking over Netflix. Directed by David Leitch, also known for John Wick and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, the Fast & Furious spinoff film follows Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw and Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs as they confront Brixton Lore (Idris Elba), a cybernetically enhanced terrorist whose plan to unleash a lethal virus poses a global threat.

Hobbs & Shaw‘s cast also includes Oscar nominee Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman) as Shaw’s younger sister Hattie, Eiza González, Cliff Curtis, Helen Mirren as Deckard and Hattie’s mother Queenie Shaw, Roman Reigns, Eddie Marsan, Eliana Su’a, John Tui, and Josh Mauga.

Now, six years after its release, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw ranks third on Netflix’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, August 18. It ranks below KPop Demon Hunters, Night Always Comes, and above Furious 7, Kandahar, Happy Gilmore 2, Marry Me, H๏τel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Despicable Me 2, and The Fast and the Furious (2001).

As a cinematic showcase, Hobbs & Shaw stands as one of Statham’s defining masterpieces. While not the crown jewel of the Fast & Furious saga, its explosive action, sharp humor, and magnetic pairing with Dwayne Johnson showcase the precision of Statham’s skills.
