You can get a new look at Good Boy, the upcoming horror film told from the perspective of a dog. Directed by Ben Leonberg with a script from Leonberg and Alex Cannon, the movie follows a dog who moves to a rural home with his owner, Todd, only to face supernatural forces.
Good Boy is being released by horror streamer Shudder and IFC, and will come to theaters on October 3. The film originally premiered at South by Southwest in March 2025, where it was largely praised by critics.
Now, IFC Films has released a trailer for Good Boy, setting the stage for an eerie and novel experience. Check it out below:
What The Good Boy Trailer Says About The Movie
Good Boy is a movie with the kind of concept that could easily lose its novelty, but the trailer makes a good case for the movie being a gripping watch all the way through. A quote from Indiewire seen in the trailer even calls the film “One of the best horror films so far this year.”
Another quote from Indiewire calls Indy, the canine star of the film, “One of the most emotive actors of his generation–regardless of species.” The trailer offers a good look at Indy’s performance, which ScreenRant’s Good Boy review also highlighted; it called Indy “one of the greatest dog actors of all time.”
Our Take On The Good Boy Trailer
With plenty of horror movies releasing in 2025, Good Boy offers a refreshingly new concept and, by most accounts, is able to execute on it in a satisfying way. That central conceit, in addition to positive word of mouth from those who have seen the film, may be enough to ensure Good Boy’s box office success.
In addition, Good Boy looks to be quietly reviving what was once essentially its own genre of film, albeit with a twist. Movies with dogs at the heart of the story–especially those made in live-action–were once relatively common at the movie theater. The Beethoven and Air Bud franchises are perfect examples, with Air Bud eyeing a 2026 reboot.
Good Boy is the first major horror take on such a concept. Although it is reminiscent of 1983’s Cujo, which adapts Stephen King’s novel, the dog was notably the antagonist of that movie, not the stand-in for the audience.
