Fantastic Four: First Steps Surges Past Its Third Phase 1 MCU Movie With New Box Office Milestone

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is climbing an important box office chart during its fourth weekend. The Matt Shakman-directed movie is the 37th theatrical installment in the interconnected superhero franchise known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which debuted on July 25, introduces the MCU’s version of the тιтular superhero family, which includes Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/The Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to close out its fourth weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative global total of $468.7 million, comprising $247 million from the domestic box office and $221.7 million from international markets.

This will make it the ninth movie of 2025 so far to pᴀss the $450 million global milestone, behind F1 The Movie, Superman, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, How to Train Your Dragon, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Sтιтch, and Ne Zha II.

Additionally, this total allows The Fantastic Four: First Steps to leap up the all-time chart of the highest-grossing MCU movies worldwide. It has now surpᴀssed the $449.3 million global box office total earned by the original Thor in 2011, placing it at No. 28.

What This Means For The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Thor marks the third Marvel Cinematic Universe movie from Phase 1 of the franchise that The Fantastic Four has outgrossed, after 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.6 million) and 2008’s The Incredible Hulk ($265.6 million). However, the 2025 movie is still relatively low on the chart.

There are 27 MCU movies ahead of First Steps, ranging from the underwhelming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($476.1 million) to the smash hit Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion). While The Fantastic Four can keep climbing as its theatrical run continues, it will most likely remain in the bottom half of the chart given its current trajectory.

Ultimately, even though the Fantastic Four: First Steps box office has had the best performance for an MCU movie in 2025 and could still scrape together a theatrical profit against its reported budget of more than $200 million, it is the franchise’s third underperforming тιтle in a row after Captain America: Brave New World ($413.6 million) and Thunderbolts* ($382.4 million).

The MCU needs a major hit in order to reestablish itself. They seem sure to get one, though, as the two movies currently scheduled to follow The Fantastic Four: First Steps into theaters are 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, both of which belong to multi-billion-dollar subfranchises of the MCU.
