Fantastic Four: First Steps Box Office Surpᴀsses One Of Disney’s Few 100% Movies On Highest-Grossing Chart

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is climbing an important box office chart. The new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, which was directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman, stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch.

2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuted on July 25 with the MCU’s best opening weekend of the year ($117.6 million). In spite of having one of the franchise’s worst week 2 drops of all time (-67.1%), it has still managed to climb the charts and become the highest-grossing MCU outing of the year worldwide.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to earn a 3-day domestic total of $8.7 million by the end of its fourth weekend in theaters. While it has slipped to No. 4 on the domestic chart below the new release Nobody 2, this gross will push its cumulative domestic total to $246.9 million.

This will see The Fantastic Four: First Steps surging up the all-time chart of the highest-grossing Disney releases at the domestic box office. By the end of Sunday, it will outgross the $245.8 million domestic haul of 1999’s Toy Story 2 (which has a rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score) to hit No. 52.

In doing so, it will also have pᴀssed the domestic grosses of three other Disney тιтles, namely 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($241.1 million domestic), 2014’s Maleficent ($241.4 million), and 2006’s Cars ($244.1 million).

What This Means For The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Given its recent surge up the chart, The Fantastic Four: First Steps should have no trouble breaking into Disney’s domestic Top 50. All it needs to do is surpᴀss the $254.6 million gross of Mufasa: The Lion King, which would only require an additional $7.7 million.

However, it may not be able to climb much higher before the end of its run, because the compeтιтion will grow steeper and steeper. The path to the Top 25 is blocked by many Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that had more robust runs during their first four weeks.

This includes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (No. 32 with $359 million) and Iron Man 3 (No. 26 with $409 million).

In spite of its stumbles, the new MCU movie’s movement up the chart shows that it still has some momentum. This is helpful, because the reported budget of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is more than $200 million, which could place its theatrical break-even point as high as $500 million.

With its incoming domestic haul, The Fantastic Four: First Steps should pᴀss the $450 million global milestone this weekend, so it may indeed reach that benchmark by the end of its run. Even if it doesn’t, the added boost from VOD purchases and rentals, as well as streaming revenue for Disney+, should help it turn a profit in the long run.
