Scary Movie 6 Will Have Two Original Stars Returning

Scary Movie 6 will feature two original stars from the 2000 movie that launched the series. Arriving in theaters on June 12, 2026, the upcoming slasher comedy will serve as a reboot for the franchise.

The Wayans brothers are returning to write and produce along with Rick Alvarez. Marlon and Shawn Wayans will star in Scary Movie 6 as Shorty and Ray, joined by Dave Sheridan, who will return as Officer Duffy.

Now, ᴅᴇᴀᴅline has confirmed that Regina Hall and Anna Faris will reprise their roles as Brenda and Cindy. The two stars expressed their enthusiasm to step back into the shoes of the characters they played in Scary Movie and for the reunion with the Wayans brothers. Check out their statement below:

We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).

The Wayans brothers’ longtime collaborator Michael Tiddes is set to direct Scary Movie 6, which will begin production in October. While most details remain unknown, Sheridan has previously confirmed that Ghostface will return to the franchise. Both Hall and Faris starred in the first four installments of the Scary Movie franchise.

Faris’ Cindy Campbell is based on the original Scream cast member Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, while Brenda is primarily a parody of Maureen Evans in Scream 2 and Martha Meeks in Scream 3. Interestingly, Campbell is also returning for the scheduled Scream 7.

2000’s Scary Movie set a box office opening record among R-rated horror movies, grossing $42.5 million during its opening weekend. By the time it ended its theatrical run, the movie had amᴀssed over $896 million worldwide and became one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies ever. Hall and Faris’ return makes the reunion in Scary Movie 6 even more significant, increasing its potential for success.

Hall and Faris’ return also indicates that Scary Movie 6 is likely still using the Scream franchise as its core inspiration and narrative foundation. On the other hand, there has been an abundance of horror flicks released in recent years. From the return of Final Destination to Terrifier 3 and Scream 6, there are plenty of movies the Wayans brothers can poke fun at.

Previously, the brothers stated that the sixth installment was meant as a return to the basics of what made Scary Movie a phenomenon in the early 2000s. Hall and Faris’ return certainly further establishes the upcoming entry as an authentic one in the movie after Scary Movie 5‘s failed reboot attempt.

On the other hand, with the franchise so good at commenting on horror movie trends, there’s a chance that the two original stars’ return in Scary Movie 6 might even serve as a commentary on the rising trend of featuring original casts in horror movie sequels.
