Ryan Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Reportedly Joining Avengers: Doomsday But There’s A Catch

Ryan Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool will be in Avengers: Doomsday after all. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally getting ready to see the return of the Avengers movies after no new entries in the franchise were released during the Multiverse Saga so far. In March, the Avengers: Doomsday cast was revealed as Marvel prepared to start filming the next Avengers movie.

That cast reveal included the return of MCU veterans, such as Thor star Chris Hemsworth and Loki actor Tom Hiddleston, as well as several surprises, such as many of Fox’s original X-Men, including James Marsden, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and more. While that led to many theories about Avengers: Doomsday‘s story, the absence of characters like Spider-Man, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool, and Wolverine was noticed.

After the actor recently teased it on social media, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Ryan Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. However, there is a catch. While Wade Wilson might be showing up in Avengers: Doomsday, the character will not join the MCU’s Avengers team. The cast for the highly anticipated MCU movie should continue to grow from here.

What Ryan Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Joining Avengers: Doomsday Means

Since ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine grossed $1.3 billion, it was confusing not to see Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine as part of the announced characters for Avengers: Doomsday. However, some time after the initial reveal, Marvel Studios’ President, Kevin Feige, claimed that it was not the full cast for the Avengers movie. As such, more names were expected to be announced later.

The report that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool is in Avengers: Doomsday connects to that. While THR did not mention Jackman’s Wolverine, both characters were together at the end of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, so it seems reasonable that if Reynolds is coming back for the next Avengers movie, so should Jackman. With production underway on Avengers: Doomsday, there is a lot of time left for reveals.

Before the report, Ryan Reynolds teased ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool joining the Avengers on social media. The actor shared the Avengers’ “A” with red graffiti on top. The symbol is the same one shown as the logo of The Void’s Resistance from ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, though with different colors. Given that Channing Tatum’s Gambit was already confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, the whole team could be coming back.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool joining Avengers: Doomsday felt inevitable. First off, alongside Jackman’s Wolverine, Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool recently starred in one of Marvel’s highest-grossing movies. Then, there is the fact that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool is still living in a different universe from the main MCU. Given that the upcoming Avengers movies should be all about universes colliding, Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool had to be in one or both.

In the past, Reynolds spoke about ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool possibly joining the Avengers. According to the actor, Wade Wilson could never be an Avengers or X-Men member, as that would make his dreams come true. For the character to work, he has to be an outsider. Based on the Avengers: Doomsday report, that could be in play for the film.

With Channing Tatum’s Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday and Ryan Reynolds’ ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool confirmed for the MCU movie, plus the actor’s social media tease connecting to The Void’s Resistance, it truly feels like the team will be back soon. As such, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could all be announced for Avengers: Doomsday in the future.
