New Warner Bros. Horror Movie Expected To Continue A Major Box Office Tradition Based On Projections

Warner Bros.’ upcoming movie is expected to follow a major box office tradition based on projections. The Conjuring: Last Rites is preparing to close the book on one of modern horror’s most successful franchises on Sept. 5, 2025. The film will serve as the fourth mainline entry in The Conjuring series, and the eighth overall in The Conjuring Universe.

Directed by Michael Chaves (The Nun II, The Curse of La Llorona) and produced by franchise creator James Wan, The Conjuring: Last Rites will see paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played once again by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) investigating the Smurl case. They will be joined by Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren and Ben Hardy as Tony Spera.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, The Conjuring: Last Rites is currently projected to have a $35 million domestic opening weekend box office when it hits theaters just after Labor Day 2025. That release window has become a horror sweet spot for Warner Bros., especially for The Conjuring franchise and its spinoffs, and the predicted $35 million opening will follow this trend.

What This Projection Means For The Conjuring: Last Rites

While other studios generally wait for Halloween to roll out their big horror тιтles, Warner Bros. has carved out early September as its own scare season. If The Conjuring: Last Rites lands as predicted, it will continue a near-decade-long winning streak for the studio. This is even more crucial considering The Conjuring: Last Rites looks to be the final movie.

The domestic opening box office projection figures signal that The Conjuring franchise still holds strong appeal, even after eight interconnected films. The franchise has grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing horror series to date, and that momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing, even as Ed and Lorraine’s saga is reportedly coming to an end.

Our Take On The Conjuring: Last Rites

The Conjuring: Last Rites’ demon case may be wrapping up Ed and Lorraine Warren’s story, but there’s seemingly still plenty of interest in the franchise. Despite being a smaller opening weekend for Warner Bros. overall, a $35 million debut for a fourth film (and eighth total) is no small feat, especially in an era of sequel fatigue, so it’ll be exciting to see if Last Rites reaches it.

With a proven director, legacy characters, and Warner Bros.’ commitment to a smart release strategy, alongside The Conjuring: Last Rites’ record runtime, the horror film is shaping up to be a monumental event. Whether or not The Conjuring: Last Rites is truly the Warrens’ “last case,” it’s already looking like a win for Warner Bros. with its $35 million projection.
