Stephen King’s The Running Man is getting a slight release delay. The upcoming dystopian action thriller film, which is based on the 1982 novel by King, will be co-written, produced, and directed by Edgar Wright, and will star Glen Powell as a “Runner” being hunted down in a survival game show, which could earn him $1 billion.
The remake of the original 1987 film stars Powell in the lead role as Ben Richards, with Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, and Lee Pace as just some of the names in The Running Man’s main cast. Wright’s dystopian thriller movie, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures, was originally scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
Now, Paramount has announced that The Running Man’s release will move to November 14. This move was reportedly done to take advantage of access to IMAX screens. As a result of the move, The Running Man’s new date means it joins Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and Neon’s Keeper.
What This Means For The Running Man
With the new release date, it will mean more access to IMAX screens. Previously, the King adaptation was set to join Predator: Badlands and Die My Love on November 7. However, this new move by Paramount is strategic as it means that The Running Man will be able to cover IMAX screens more effectively.
Typically, IMAX screenings are limited and scheduled in blocks, giving one major film premium placement before being rotated out for the next big release. With Predator: Badlands confirmed for IMAX release, this would have put The Running Man in compeтιтion with the franchise. Instead, The Running Man has its own one-week slot between Predator and the Wicked: For Good sequel.
Our Take On The Running Man’s Release
Moving The Running Man into a better position for access to IMAX screenings will also give the film its time to shine before Wicked’s sequel. Wicked movie debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, and there’s no doubt the second film will be a spectacle. So, although we’ll have to wait one week more, it will be worth it.
